61 GT3 cars to do battle in the Ardennes!

It's quite a powerful statement.

I just want to start of on a personal note. This race will mark 20 years since I attended my first ever live motor race. It was the 1994 24 hours of Spa when I was only 2 years old. and from then the ball got rolling you could say! I will thoroughly enjoy the race this weekend

2013Spa24_jb_22641.jpg

Lets start off with the mandatory cars-charging-up-eau-rouge-pic.

For me this race is one of the most prestigious ones on the international Motorsport calendar. You can say whatever you like about the BoP in Gt3 vs. GTE, but this weekend It's just about pure racing and love for the sport. World class drivers and teams in equal cars for 24 hours at the daunting Spa Francorchamps, it's bound to be an exciting race again, as usual.

The /Drive Network made this spectacular video about the 24h at Spa last year. For those of you not to familiar with the race (and those who are), it's definitely worth a watch!

The entry list is packed with famous names just like it uses to. The Le Mans Winners for example is sharing the #2 (of 3) WRT Audi, and a hell of a lot of others (Rast, Stippler, Lapierre, Müller, Winkelhock, Parente, Van Gibergen....)

Oh well, you can check it all out here: http://www.total24ho...8-EntryList.pdf

Motors TV will broadcast the race live on selected hours and so will the Blancpain Endurance website.

As usual, our "voice in the night" Radio Le Mans, will broadcast the race live!

Timetable (in full)

Thursday
11:55 - 13:25 Free Practice

18:40 - 19:40 Pre-qualifying

20:45 - 22:00 Qualifying
22:30 - 23:45 Night Qualifying

Friday
18:50 - 19:10 Super Pole
19:20 - 20:20 "Bronze driver test"

Saturday
15:00 - 16:30 Grid celebrations
16:30 - Start of the 90 anniversary 24 hours of Spa Francorchamps

Now, get ready for some of this

Spa-24-2013-008.jpg

And "for sure" a lot of this!

Is there a way to watch all of the race? Or is only set hours being broadcast?

Here we will only get set hours on the sports network, but it is possible that a cable channel will show the whole thing.  Probably have to check your local tv and cable stations to see if anyone picked it up for continuous airing.

According to BES Broadcasting info, Nismo TV will show the whole thing live. I've also understood that they have RLM commentary, which also covers the entire race distance.

Pdf link: http://www.blancpain...of SPA 2014.pdf

Nismo TV: https://www.youtube....zL-MaCy-YUqPRoQ

That's not to say the BES stream is a bad option - Addison & Watson make up a great pairing as well. To the extent that it may sometimes be very difficult to choose between the RLM and the BES commentary.

I'm gonna watch the first two hours and then I have to go to the mandatory Saturday party and whatnot, but I'll be back again tomorrow morning for the rest of the race.

Cool. First time ever watching the Spa 24H.

I think so, though I thought I saw him trying to get while cars were still going past at full speed.

Another big crash by the looks of it.

yeah I was thinking that.

It's usually serious if they don't even show the crash

Blacpain GT Series sponsored by Safety Car. So far...

I hope no driver is seriuosly injured. Whenever I tune it there is SC. I heard John Watson commentating at some point, but he seems to leave home already. Or is he on team radios talking to drivers how to take it easy on cold tyres?

RLM just confirmed that both the Macca #101 as well as the AM #107 drivers are conscious and have been taken to hospital for standard checks.

John Watson* is right when getting impatient with some of the driving standards here.

He is known for lack of patience for driver stupidity. He was the one who gave me much understanding about F1 racing when he was commentating for Eurosport in early 90s. His insights were one of of the most important things to get me really into motorsport and to push me into simracing.

*)
5 F1 wins
2 F1 poles
20 F1 podiums

First win in 1976 in Austria, first race after 76 Nordshleife

The old man can critisize these guys. He made it when it really did hurt to be stupid while racing.

Totally agree there. Some of the Pro-Am and especially GTR drivers (the 333 Ferrari comes to mind) are plain ********. They should not be out there during a 24h race

Nick Daman on RLM speculates that if there were a problem with getting the driver out of the car, the red flag would likely have been thrown quicker. So it may well be for barrier damage. Fingers crossed all the same.

I really hope that both drivers are ok, especially Kogay. I'm not gonna jump to any conclusions without any video proof, but these Gentlemen drivers should not take part in any of these events in the future. Let them drive in the regular 3h events where they're only doing 1h stints and that's it, but we have seen so many incidents in the first 5 hours that I'm scared what the night might bring.

One reason (This is just speculative) might be that the medical helicopter or both ambulances are needed. They are not allowed to race without them on track.

I didn't see the earlier shunts, but this one looked horrific. They've still not shown a replay or any live footage from Stavilot.

The bloke in the pits they've just interviewed is talking about a helicopter, I hope it's not a medical helicopter...

They said two helicopters to land on the track. This is concerning. :( I didn't see the crash was it two guys involved or more?
