For Cooper history purposes I am trying to locate the diary or 'carnet' kept by Raymond Sommer in which he summarised his cars, expenses, companions and results.

Extracts from this were published in “L’Automobiliste” in September 1987 and Adam Ferrington has kindly given me a copy of this article. Apparently the diaries were then verified by Raymond's sister-in-law, Jaqueline, whom the article incorrectly says was Raymond's wife, but there is no clue as to who held them.

If anyone has any clues or suggestions on this I would be very grateful.

I think the diary must be in private hands as none of the Sommer family foundations (there are at least three) know of it.

I think the problem might be that if the author confused Sommer's wife with his sister, then some degree of scepticism must devolve onto the rest of the article

Sister-in-law ... the sort of  mistake journalists make all the time ;) The rest of the article has a photograph of pages and detailed extracts regarding some major races so there is no doubt in my mind about the diary's existence.

It's a worry to think that such things can just vanish.
