I couldn't give a sh*t where Hamilton finishes. I just hope it's an entertaining race.

I remember Hungary 2011 being entertaining but only coz it rained. I doubt the race will be entertaining if it stays dry barring antics from HAM.

Dont know who voted HAM for top step of podium but if you are right, the AS servers better be prepared for it! :smoking:

….but now they know about T1, and that was a bit special anyway, with the rain being heavier in a very small area. Normal rain covers the whole track.

You're right about Massa might being an obstacle, and before him, the Force India's too, but he might have them through running a longer 1st stint.

Yup but rain may not come to T1 again but on a different corner.

Given that primes are way slower and void of grip, I just dont see HAM running a long stint on primes. He does seem to be the best on extending life for options, but he will be in traffic that will hurt his tyres, so very tricky to see him doing an extended stint.

If Merc knew it would stay dry and if HAM could run 69 laps on 3 sets of options, I would rather he pits his primes after lap 1 and then hope for a SC that gets him right in the mix and needing only options for the rest of the race.

No higher than 6th. It'd be great if he could finish 4th (assuming Nico wins), keep the points deficit below 28 points. (4 race wins vs 4 seconds).

Starting from pit lane will make things even more challenging for Lewis. Starting from grid he could have overtaken many of those back markers on first lap, but now his first lap is about catching the second last guy (assuming we have clean start).

He'll lose important seconds that could really harm his charge trough the field.

A top-5 finish would be a win in itself. A podium would probably rank along some of the finest drives ever around this track. A win would probably rank along some of the finest drives ever.

a win from 20th at Hungary in the dry would be one hell of a feat.

But there probably is no finer driver at Hungary than Schumacher's 1998....

As hinted by Mercedes, Hamilton needs to run a different strategy than everyone else. He has more soft tires available. Will we see a 5 stopper? After seeing him in Germany I think that is in the realm of the possibility. It's just that every pitstop needs to be executed perfectly. Including the right timing, so he doesn't get stuck behind anyone. If he does get stuck, then it's going to be difficult. But points should be possible for Hamilton. But anything beyond 5th IMO needs to get everything right, which I don't think can be taken for granted.

Strategy wise it's anyway an interesting race. The medium tire is way slower, so I expect everyone to spend only a few laps on them. Rain and SC cars might throw in surprises as well.

I think Hamilton has a good chance of making podium. Worst case scenario 5-6. I, personally speaking will love it, if someone else than Mercedes drivers won :p

p.s: I think Shambolic made an astute observation about changing names of some threads. So thumbs up to you mate

At first my prediction will be "safety car" at least 2 times, more or less regarding the changing weather conditions. If Hamilton will not be involved in those cases, he will get the chance, especially if the tyre choices will be spot on.

Secondly, I couldnt not resist to comment the pit-stops this season for Mercedes, i wonder if anybody do the summary of seconds lost in pits by both Mercs drivers? answer should be quite a big difference between both of them in Rosberg favor, i doubt if this is all just exception cases.

Nevertheless, if first 5 laps will be "quiet" ones, Hami will have difficult race, especially on fuel and tyre consumption, but as usually, we will see it, should be great race.

Could be important for Lewis to get to the end of the pit lane before mag but hope they don't push it too far and his car ignites again!

FYI: the order of the start doesn't depend on when you get to the end of the pit lane. Mag will start ahead of Ham as he crashed out of Q after Hamilton.

With the best possible luck, lots of rain and dnf's, it will be possible for lewis to get podium. But the chances are very slim. WE'l see what happens, if I was in his position i'd be completely discouraged having to bust my ass everytime.

I think LH will have a stop and go to serve in the first three laps, atlleast that is what Ericsson got when they had to break park ferme last race.

So the Sunday race thread with a poll for your predictions on HAM!

Given Mercedes' recent supremacy surely anything less than a podium would be a big disappointment.

I hope he can put that Mercedes to creative use and give us some exciting non-DRS passes. This track does have places where that would be possible, at least with such a car.

I don't suspect Red Bull will be able to keep up with Rosberg throughout the race, unfortunately. :well:

..if someone could tell details about that Ericsson case..hand how it compares with Hamilton's. Oh how this forum would explode if Hamilton had stop-and-go penalty at the start..

Vettel had fresh tyres and a wildly faster car vs Kimi last year, I can't see the people claiming a normal dry race podium for Lewis

It doesn't really. Ericsson had a hydraulic leak, the stewards deemed that they should've been able to get the car into parc ferme so issued the penalty as a disincentive to teams not to abuse parc ferme rules. In hamiltons case, there really is no car to put into parc ferme. It would be quite incredible if they gave a further penalty as there's clearly nothing the team could've done to abide by the rules. It is Hamilton though so I half ecoect them to stick the knife in.

Last time, it has been already almost impossible getting second (Hockenheim). This time the track is even much more hostile regarding overtaking. And in long-run stints at Friday, the RedBulls were only one or two or three tenths slower. Compared to Hockenheim, this time it will be even almost impossible to get third, unless rain chaos mixes up things in a very unusual manner so that Hamilton is benefiting extremely, for a change (hopefully).

Whilst I don't think he'll reach the podium, he has one of the strongest cars in a straight line this year, whereas the Red Bull last year was one of the slowest.

On the pit wall. Lewis had some pretty good luck running through the back-markers and mid-fielders, with the occasional close call this year. Today his luck runs out.
