#F1 #BBCF1 #HUNGARORING SUN F'cast models retain (or in some cases, ramp-up) possibility of heavy showers/storms 2-4pm local, esp later race

#F1 #BBCF1 #HUNGARORING SUN CONTD Like today, steering winds aloft will direct showers SSE to NNW. Thus radar-watch will be to S of circuit.

Rain looks very likely, but only two plus millimeters, which is nothing really. It might even vapor very soon upon hitting the warm asphalt. I very much doubt it's going to be inters.

Rosberg, barring any mechanical gremlins, will have another easy win. The Bulls are closer, but still not nearly fast enough to challenge for a win on merit.

Williams/Bottas has surprised me a little, and I think he's going to be fighting Vettel and Ricciardo for second as it turns out.

Perhaps a lonely race to fifth for Alonso?

Hamilton will end up behind him unless he has some good fortune with a SC, at superb timing, then he might do better.

Hardly an mm was enough today to catch a few unawares in qualy and even have MAG crash out. Racing one another and a similar scenario could take out a few.

And still nobody betting on MAS I see. If he survives lap 1, I doubt HAM can get past him either.

….but now they know about T1, and that was a bit special anyway, with the rain being heavier in a very small area. Normal rain covers the whole track.

You're right about Massa might being an obstacle, and before him, the Force India's too, but he might have them through running a longer 1st stint.

If Hamilton keeps his nose clean I think he'll get 3rd or 4th. If there's a SC/Rain or retirements then maybe higher. Patience is key for him.

rain will make this race mental especially if it starts raining shortly after the first pits.

If the teams sense rain, they are gonna extend the 1st stint at the expense of lap times. But yes, inters after everyone has just changed tyres (except HAM) would work :smoking:

But every rain shower has an edge, as they found out in qualifying - depends if you are the one who finds it first.

Starting from pit lane will make things even more challenging for Lewis. Starting from grid he could have overtaken many of those back markers on first lap, but now his first lap is about catching the second last guy (assuming we have clean start).

He'll lose important seconds that could really harm his charge trough the field.

I don't think so. He will be better off overtaking one car at a time rather than a big bunch. Backmarkers will let him through.

Needs to keep his cool though.

If Seb can get a good start, he can go for the win, I would think...

Nico will have a hard time at Hungary passing Seb.

Why does mag have to start from the pit? He crashed during q3 right?

Very good prospect for a great race, Lewis will be on the podium for sure, I think we will see a repeat of Germany podium, maybe with Vettel in Bottas position.

if last half of the race is run in rains,i expect Vettel to snatch a victory or Lewis making a mega come back to the top of the podium.

but either way Ferrari will suffer.. :|

i'm more interested in what new ways Ferrari pitwall will **** up kimi's strategy ... i know they can't top Q1, but i'm being optimistic that they'll top that somehow.

on other note ... i'm looking forward for RBR intra team battle and possible another alonso-vettel squabble.

expect both FI's to be the buttplug for lewis's recovery charge. also throw in the STRs to hold him up.

but let's be honest, it's more likely to be a processional race. apart from kimi, kevin and hamsta charging from the back.

I just want Vettel to get off the dirty side OK and try to keep Rosberg in sight but if it's a best of the rest 2nd I'll take it.

Hamilton might struggle to make inroads, pace in clean air is going to determine how many midfield runners he'll jump. Still think he can get top 5, though a podium is unlikely unless the Bulls/Williams or Alonso/Rosberg retire

I wonder if the midfielders will jump out of his way though and not lose time fighting him- that would be useful for him

No, what happened?

Everyone lined up on the grid with dry tyres and it started raining, Winkelhock dived into the pitlane instead of lining up on the grid and put wet tyres on and was leading after lap 1. Too bad there was a red flag after a few laps, he had an enormous lead.

Track is 8km away from Budapest. GP2 is on right now (10:50 local time) and there's no sight of rain.

What an epic race.  Aquaplaning into turn 1 after a few laps, with 4 or 5 cars ending up in the gravel trap of turn 1.. one after the other.  Took a while until it was red flagged also.  These days it'd be red flagged straight away after the first car went off.  Button, a STR and a few others all flying off at the part where it dips down into the braking zone.. even Lewis ended up there.  Until his dad craned him back onto the track (oops, think the photoshops people posted here clouded my memory on that one).  He kept the engine running and resumed racing while all the others DNF'd.  An epic battle between Massa and Alonso (in the year or two that Massa was a good driver) as the track dried out in the second half of the race with Alonso overtaking him side by side and having contact of turn 4 or 5 near the end of the race.  Alonso getting the win over Massa and Webber holding off Wurz and DC for his first podium with RBR.

The start was amazing, in terms of how quickly it changed, and it rained so hard that it was only a few laps until the river in turn 1 was causing aquaplaning.

edit - And a memorable quote from Nick Heidfeld on team radio saying that the twack was undwivable.

And both Rosberg and Hamilton got stuck in gravel after T1, although Hamilton recovered with a help of other vehicle, what spread some controversy, because it was theoretically forbidden to do like that, at least that what I heard and read in Polish media.

btw

In Prosche start, clean side gave big advantage as usual here 3rd driver jumped 2nd, 5th jumped 4th, but rain may wash everything out before F1 start.

the perfect scenario would be what happened in Motogp last time round in Sachsenring, most of the grid on wets on start but the track was too dry, so most of them came back to switch dry tire bikes on the warm up lap ... a pit lane start for 2/3rd of the grid ... now that'd be awesome

If F1 was made for fairy-tales...

1) it will rain

2) Button will win

A podium would be good though, for JB.  :)

Apparently it would've been John Button's birthday today..........a win would be amazing, but even just a podium would be pretty emotional for Jenson.

Nice gem from the very sharp Skysports twiiter guy (must be Crofty).

Apparently he does not know it's an entirely dfferent chassis.

A look at the state of Hamilton's car after yesterday's fire. Will start the #HungarianGP from the pit lane. #SkyF1

For Kimi I predict that he'll be stuck behind slow(er) cars for long time and Ferrari will try "over cut" strategy where they'll pit few laps later than those around and they'll lose another few places with that.

Well I hope it's not another case of "Rain predicted later in this race" followed by "There might be a few showers towards the end of the race" followed by "It shouldn't rain before the end of the race". I'd guess about 50% of F1 races have that forecast.

Yeah, I think we are in for yet another race of that... After seeing the radar, not quite sure it will rain during the GP at all..

It is getting stronger as I type, kind of torrential rain now, lightnings strike once, twice a minute.
