... in the pitlane. Apart from a new surface the money will go into improving the only area fans are kept out of and no racing is allowed in.

The gobs of money being poured into F1 pit areas around the world makes me wonder if they really shouldn't rename them "Versailles".

Eh, they've been talking about how run down the paddock in Interlagos is the years. It's the one place they actually need to rebuild it.

I'm glad they are going ahead with a new pit entry. It's the one spot on the modern calendar that is actually dangerous.

Same as what happened to Suzuka several years ago. Not all improvements are necessary, or at least dont need to be done at once.

At least I'm pleased to learn one thing

the idea of moving the start/finish to the back straight on the run to Turn 4 has been ditched and they will instead be built in the same location.

thanks a lot for that.

It's still a big shame Silverstone has moved start/finish line...

Silverstone really did shoot themself in the foot when they moved the start finish line.

Same with destroying the track with the new section.

Good thing Interlagos wont be butchered up like that.

They are not spending 80 million dollars on the pit entry itself or a new track surface, most of the money will certainly be spent inside the pits.

How about spending those tax dollars on improving the stadiums or even (god forbid) lowering the ticket prices to get more people into the stands?

As long as the layout isn't touched, I'm fine with that.

Are they still moving back the grandstands at the final corner to add run-off? If so that will be a shame, as the atmosphere of a car driving into the 'bowl' there is amazing, and that final corner is one of the classics in F1. It will be sad to see it become a car park.

As has been said, very good news that the pits won't move around the track. Curious to see what they do to improve the pit entry.

Just some food for thought, Brazil spent around $15 billion on the World Cup. That's compared to this ~80m upgrade, one which will probably be used every day of the year and will host major sporting events every year, not just a one-off. Worth considering that before thinking the amount is too unreasonable.

Maybe they should ask Bernard, he seems to be in a good mood to spend.

This is the previous thread on the topic, it has all the renderings of the new pitlane design.

After this year's F1 race, the current cramped pit complex will be demolished and then rebuilt to a higher specification.

This will give the teams larger garages and should also increase the paddock space behind them."

"The plan for the new pits has been in the works for several years, but the idea of moving the start/finish to the back straight on the run to Turn 4 has been ditched and they will instead be built in the same location."

Is there even enough room for a bigger paddock, specially with larger garages...?

By the aerial look, I think there might be space to make a pit building longer than it is now.
