But what really doesn't make sense is that if Kimi is doing "reasonably well" when struggling so much against Alonso, how is Alonso only 5th? Meanwhile you have Ricciardo in P1 and Vettel not even in the top 10 even though there's an argument that says Vettel could easily have won both of the races that Ricciardo has this season "had things gone his way". If you give the same level of allowance you do, you could argue almost any driver on the grid is doing an amazing job.

But anyway, here's a serious top 10.

1) Alonso
2) Ricciardo
3) Hamilton
4) Rosberg
5) Bottas
6) Vettel

7) Hulkenburg
8) Kvyat/Vergne
10) Perez

By "had things gone his way", - you mean if Seb hadn't been slow on his in-lap and out-lap in Canada and if he hadn't spun (all on his own) in Hungary?  Maybe...  Maybe not...

Well he had Perez infront of him at Canada, you do get held up from 1s behind. At Hungary, he outqualified Dan and was running significantly better in the race before the first safety car. So yeah, there are legitimate arguments that luck has played a large role in how big the gap between the 2 of them have been.

However I'm not a Vettel fan, my point was aimed at Alexandros' post. You can't make allowances for 1 driver but not the other. You don't have to look that hard to find small things that have affected the outcome of various races. Vettel is getting a lot of stick atm for not performing vs Ricciardo, but a lot of it is because it's unexpected. Alonso "underperformed" against Hamilton in 07, but actually Hamilton was just very good. If Ricciardo is good enough to be at number 1 in someones list, I don't understand how Vettel can miss out on the top 10.

Being 11 pts. behind nico despite ham having more bad luck is everything but impressive.

That's a matter of opinion and I think the majority disagrees with you. Anyway my point was that it shows he has not performed worse than his teammate overall so far in 2014.

1. Alonso, obviously, struggling with slow car

2. Ricciardo, what an attitude, refreshing smile besides all the whining, down on power

3. Bottas, the next real deal, down on Resources in small team

4. Rosberg, obviously leading the WDC, doing what he's supposed to

5. Hamilton, struggling with brakes and obeying his team

6. Hulkenberg, to big for this F1?

7. Vettel, a season in between for the most decorated driver out there, probably due to new regulations

8. Magnussen/Button, McLaren in decliine

10. Perez

1: Nico Rosberg - Who would have expected him to lead Hamilton in a car that is so dominant and without competition? Keeps a calm head, deals with the media professionally, stays off psychological attempts through media from his team mate. Cool, calm, collected

2: Fernando Alonso - In yet another mediocre Ferrari he is destroying Kimi and driving maybe better than ever taking the car probably higher than it otherwise would be

3: Daniel Ricciardo - Expected him to be good but he is a revelation, and has certainly taking the match to Vettel. Kudos to Red Bull for hiring "within" and giving him a chance. They are sitting on a potentially super great driver duo

4: Lewis Hamilton - Is driving as fast and good as you can expect when he is at his best. Should perhaps figure higher but he is showing signs of cracking a bit under pressure, wearing his heart on his sleeve and being disturbed by Nicos competitiveness. Victim of high expectations

5: Valtteri Bottas - Going from strength to strength and is a possible superstar in the making. Absolutely the most exciting finn in F1 today

6: Sebastian Vettel - Being regularly beaten by Ricciardo although not by much. Is having a bit of an off year, but he has also had some things conspiring against him and could have been a race winner this year. Can bounce back with a strong second half if they can stay off engine penalties

7: Nico Hulkenberg - Taking the Force India regularly into the points and he is beating Perez over the season although not much between them

8: Daniel Kvyat - Another Red Bull gamble they should get credit for. Is also a bit of a revelation of the season and seems to be mature beyond his years. Vettel, Ricciardo and Kvyat really justifies Red Bulls driving programme

9: Jules Bianchi - Has taken advantage of circumstances when they have come up but he is also taking the Marussia to places it might not have been at with a Caterham style duo of drivers. Monetary one of the biggest contributors to the team thanks to his 9th place in Monaco

10: Kevin Magnussen - Difficult choice for the 10th spot but Keving just gets the nod. Although Button is ahead he just doesn't seem inspired. Keving started off with a bang but then he fell back but has come back lately. Given it's his first year in a McLaren that is struggling he also just gets the nod over Perez.

Kimi Räikkönen I forgot to mention which probably says quite a lot. Just doesn't seem to be there and even though he might struggle with Ferrari one must expect him to at least be all over Alonso like a cheap suit but he looks more like the door mat left behind.

Jenson Button doesn't seem inspired

Felipe Massa in too many incidents and Bottas has the upper hand

Sergio Perez narrowly shadows Hulkenberg but Hulkenberg brings home the points every weekend

Jean Eric Vergne shadows Kvyat and/orr is ahead of Kvyat but Vergne has been around now and Kvyat hasn't. Good, solid but just not something extra

Romain Grosjean tries and do a good job with shitty equipment

Pastor Maldonado isn't close to Grosjean and still gets himself involved in stupid crashes

Adrian Sutil is just meeeeh. Been around and does the job and that's about it.

Esteban Guiterrez holds off good compared to Sutil but is there something extra there?

Kamui Kobayashi was just never on to a good season. At least controls his team mate easily but he really should

Max Chilton has taken a small step forward but his biggest merit is probably outqualifying Bianchi at least one or two times but mostly he now has a buddy to race with in Ericsson

Marcus Ericsson seems happy just to be in F1 but doesn't do much with his chance although he has shitty equipment to play with

This is a serious and subjective attempt at a top 10 with an effort to be objective and not letting personal driver and team preferences control.

Indeed. You give Vettel the benefit of the doubt and don't trash him, like many have done. Also, you put Nico Rosberg at P1 - which makes sense in a way, as he is in the first place. Very few people, including myself, have recognized him for this.
