He would be leading the championship at this point, of that I have no doubts.

Oh yeah. Even if he's 45, talent will always be there.

If you read Senna Vs Prost, scapegoat was more like it... according to Prost.

Not a book that's ever tempted me I'm afraid.

There's a brilliant in depth Prost biography crying out to be written. Get on with it, someone.

Could i possibly ask you to tell me why? By a pm, if you could, so we don't derail the thread.

It's not fading, he earned himself 2 x WDC :)

2 is a multiple of 1.   :)

Edit: Maybe that was what you meant - sorry. Funnily enough, 0 is a multiple of all integers, so there are many multiple WDCs!

For me it is

1) What if Raikkonen stayed at McLaren. I personally feel he would have performed better in 2007 and 2008. Who knows what would have happened afterwards though.
2) What if BMW stayed. BMW's ascension in 2007 and 2008 were mighty impressive and they developed their 2009 car pretty well. I think they may have eventually got it right if they committed to the sport. Sauber performed very well in 2012, imagine what they could have done with the resources of BMW.
3) What if Toyota stayed. They had a pretty good car in 2009. It's unlikely they would have had a championship winning car but maybe they could have won a race at last. I hate when there is a car ready to race but it's not able to compete!

I think if BMW stayed, theyd been near the front in 2010. And if Toyota had stayed, they should have been in the title hunt. The improvements to the TF110 were massive. Im not sure Glock or Trulli could have cut it, but they were after Kimi. Id rather see him and Kobayashi in Toyota.

Manufacturers were already warning about fiddling with the regulations. 3 of them left... at once. It is something which is hard to shake. Some people will come and tell me, "oh it was the crisis." Nope, my trousers were just fine, but i guess i can't speak for them! Jokes apart, those 3 somewhat complained about upcoming formula and that led their decision making process. Why's Honda coming back if money was such an issue? Infact they're giving a decent chunk of change to McLaren as far as rumours go.I wouldn't be surprised much if Toyota also came back. Can't guess much about BMW though. They did reasonably well with some of their engines... given all the world is going green, may be experimenting with a V6 1.6 litre turbo engine, it may just lay the groundwork for their new M cars possibly. Who knows. I would love more manufacturers in sport.

In the words of the great Tony Soprano, aging in your 40's makes a difference

Schumi's had a strong 2012 relative to Nico, but as evidenced by that collision with JEV at the end of the year, his reflexes were going. I think Lewis and Nico would both be out-performing him by a modest margin.

It is also hard to determine whether Nico had a sub-par 2012, or Schumi simply got to grips with things. I am open to suggestions from both sides of the debate, but I tend to lean towards the former.

What if Red Bulls had been very, very slow during 2010-14

What if Newey had gone somewhere other than Red Bull?

What if Bobby Rahal had successfully managed to lure Newey into joining Jaguar?

What if Jeff Gordon, Tom Kristensen, Sebastien Loeb and Scott Dixon made a solid jump to F1?
