The 1975 championship was the only time that the championship was decided by a "one-off" race. Why did CAMS decide not to run a multi-round championship, as with every other Australian Sports Car Championship between 1969 and 1988?

The ASCC series had been losing ground over several years...

1974 did see a couple of new cars in the outright category, but the retirement of Lionel Ayers mid-series didn't help. And one of those new cars promised to be just what Frank Matich had been four, five and six years earlier - totally dominant.

The CAMS also had some pressure to give the series over to Production Sports Cars so Porsche could always do a lot of winning.

So we had the odd one-off single race title at Phillip Island, won at a canter by Garrie Cooper as expected, though Keith Poole proved to be an unexpected threat.

Parallel to all of this was the reintroduction of the Australian Tourist Trophy, instigated by the CAMS to preview the ProdSports-based ASCC of 1976 by being conducted for these cars at Calder on May 25, 1975.

When the ProdSports had their 'ownership' of the ASCC series, the ATT was run for proper Sports-Racing cars. I would suggest this was not a CAMS idea, rather that of the PIARC who conducted it in '76 and '77, then it went to Calder and Winton the following two years before these cars resumed their proper place as being the cars for which the ASCC was held. Though there was a two-year gap before that happened.

Are you happy with that response, Graham?

I thought at least you'd have been pleased that you got a response from someone who competed in the race...

Hi Ray,

Yes, I am very pleased with your response. BTW, what caused you to retire the Hustler after 22 laps?

It was still running at the end, Graham...

But insufficient distance to qualify as a finisher. I even had a fuel stop!

Where did you get results that showed that detail?

Mistakes are, as always, abundant on the Wiki page...

Why don't they ask someone who knows?

Graeme Baird in a 'Kregol'? Peter Krefel won't be amused!
