Freedom!!
This is only great news. Give the guy some experience here and there before the Haas debut so he's more apt to fill the seat if that is their plan.

Glad to hear it... the guy clearly deserves a shot. Let's see if he can deliver a solid drive.

Marussia say the change is being made due to “contractual issues” with Chilton.
Looks like dads cash has run dry?

Erm....
How does a guy whose dad part-owns the team get replaced the day before the event?

Still don't associate the name Rossi with the US.
Good luck to him. He's been knocking on the door for a while.

Rossi
Is Rossi superior as a driver to Chilton? They are both fairly mid pack in the junior series

What? It's as American as apple pie. As Scottish as DiResta. As Australian as Ricciardo.

I blame that bloke on the bike. I mean, I don't think of Andrettis as being anything other than American.

Considering max is 'buying' his seat in the first place, that doesnt seem to make sense to me

..Probably said pushy-dad doesn't wield as much financial clout as he makes out!

Will Chilton be back for Monza?
It seems to be the weekend for driver changes. Who's next? Simona De Silvestro to replace Sutil?

Please, please let this happen.

This is an interesting one. Unlike at Caterham, Marussia are replacing the pay driver. Marussia have points on the board, but this one is even more of an indication of bad things financially.

Or it indicates that they feel safe with 10th in the WCC and the money that comes with it and can have a bit of freedom with their driver line-up(in the short term at least). This is an interesting one. it seems to me like it could be permanent the team say ''while contractual issues are resolved'' yet max says he volunteered to step out.
looks very like the team need more cash and max's dad said no

Contractual issues sounds a lot like "the latest cheque didn't clear" ... Wonder if dad losing AON's chairmanship has anything to do...

After what happened to them at Brazil in '12, I find this theory highly implausible. Marussia are only just surviving - it's more plausible they're struggling to reach the (uncertain) Bernie money payday.

What number will Rossi be using or has that not been announced yet?
doesn't he have a number in the 44-46 range?
#36

reading the autosport link again it seems the team had plans for him to have a race seat in 2015 so it seems the cheque has indeed bounced

Lotterer uses 45 this weekend. Marussia has the numbers 42, 43 and 44, so i think he will use 42. Or he can choose a number himself?

Can't say I'd be at all disappointed if Chilton dropped out for the rest of the season. He's been rather poor.
Rossi is probably a slightly better choice, and it's definitely good to see a couple of drivers getting the chance to make their debuts.

Yeah. Kind of like 'Andretti' or even 'America'. What have Italian surnames ever had to do with the US?Still don't associate the name Rossi with the US.

Didn't see this coming!
All the power to the guy, his name has been linked to F1 for a little while now. Good to know that he's getting his big chance now.

Saw the thread title and thought, 'Surely he'd be replacing Kimi if anyone.' Then I realised to which Rossi the thread in question was referring.
Yeah. Kind of like 'Andretti' or even 'America'. What have Italian surnames ever had to do with the US?
The US is indeed a nation of immigrants (even Nascar is full of names like Nemechek and Kwasniewski).

I think you're a little late to that party. Chilton has had no association with AON for the entirety of 2014: Benfield founder leaves Aon for new Gallagher venture.

I like that idea. Better than Sutil notching 400 races without a podium.

apparently Max volunteered to step out of the seat due to the team selling it from being skint
So these are the options.
1. Max still pays for this race without actually driving the car, making a 1+1= double income for Marussia this weekend.
2. Max doesn't pay for Spa and Rossi pays more than originally agreed with Chilton.
I suppose a part of the story is that Marussia hopes to find new sponsors/investors from the US, however, Greame Lowdon said that "'until contractual situation is resolved it's not appropriate for Max to drive'."
On Max Chilton not racing this w/e - Graeme Lowdon says 'until contractual situation is resolved it's not appropriate for Max to drive'.
It doesn't compute
