Thing is, no Chilton, no Marussia, so no Bianchi.  Chilton's not keeping anyone out of F1, but allowing someone else into it.

It's not a Sauber situation where it's just desperate.

That sounds more like Maldonado at Lotus than MC and Marussia.

It's the same with both, only Chilton crashes far less.

I don't see Bianchi going to Sauber next year as they need pay drivers as much as Caterham and Marussia, and it's a bit early for him to get a Ferrari seat, especially with how conservative they are on that front.

I love the autosport headline : " Mystery remains over Chilton's return " By the looks of it i would say something like this went down:

Papa Chilton : Max, have you done all you chores this week?

Max: Umm, no dad, i don't feel like cleaning my room and all that boring stuff, get someone else to do it !!!!

Papa Chilton: Do your room, take the garbage out, do the dishes and brush your teeths before sleepy time please, or otherwise i will have someone else in the car this week end!

Max: Papa, that's so unjust, you are so mean to me, i don't wanna do chores, it sucks

Papa Chilton: ( on phone ) Ok, get that american guy in the car at spa, Max is throwing a fit again. ( hang up ), To Max: you see now, clean after your self young man

Max: OH DAD!!!!! OK I'LL DO IT, BUT YOU ARE SO UNFAIR, I HATE YOU.

Papa Chilton : ( on phone again ) Ok, nevermind, tell the american chap to **** off, it worked, Max is doing his chores.

That suck for the other guy too, getting told : " it's your turn, chap, go out and have a go at a race" . Then later on: "Ok, sorry mate, you are not driving this week end after all, better luck next time".... poor Rossi, must be pissed....

And I do like people bringing up Kobayashi as if he's some great talent when he didn't do any better than guys like Ericsson and Chilton in GP2.

I think these 'pay drivers' are a fair bit better than a lot of people give them credit for. Certainly not the hopeless paydrivers of the past.

I also suspect that many people calling Chilton and Ericsson useless probably aren't the type that actually watches GP2 and other lower formula.

Who cares about GP2, Nelson Piquet jr was also a better driver than Kamui but was embarassing in F1.

When Ericsson and Chilton combine to 1% of Kamui career points maybe you compare then with Kamui

To me it looks like Chilton's position in the team is not guaranteed. AFAIK his father has nothing to do with the ownership of Marussia that is still retained by Cheglakov. Chilton's backing seems to be coming from a group of investors. A fickle bunch at best. They are just as likely to pull the plug if they deem Chilton provides no ROI.

Andrey Cheglakov is actually one of our respected advisors at J.P Morgan. A lot of $$$ and ROI with projects, so I think Marussia is a bit more safe than some other teams with his backing considering he's a billionaire.

However he didn't become a billionaire by making poor business decisions. Although he might have the resources to bank roll Marussia, deciding to do it is another matter.

I think all we can conclude from that is that Andrey Cheglakov won't personally lose much money on the venture.

Chilton's not done himself any favours with his comments I don't think. Alexander Rossi has to be given huge plaudits for not publicly criticising the team or throwing a strop on social media about the situation, he's handled himself very well and I do feel quite sorry for him. I feel the most sorry for Jules Bianchi in all this, he deserves a far better team.

Don't feel TOO sorry for him. I somehow suspect he will get a better car sometime soon...

There are rumours about an American consortium to buy Marussia. Does anyone know more about that?
