Did Lewis get slowed down by that Ferrari ? They were 2 secs a lap quicker.

Agree with the first part. However, I wasn't aware points were given for pole...
EDIT: Paddy reports braking issue for Lewis.

First time Rosberg's genuinely out-qualified Hamilton for quite some time.
Only since Silverstone.

Silverstone is not genuine. Austria I agree.

Not that I think it's super important but I just seen Lewis getting weight check with heavy wrist watch. I guess it's easily 100g.

Not so sure about the brakes, as it was Hammy suggesting it to the pits, and they responding by instructing him how to properly heat his brakes.

Great job from Nico the fastest German.

Front-left brake was glazed. Not much he could have done really.

Really sad watching drivers abuse the run off down at Rivage. Something needs to be done about that.

Great job from Rosberg there! Didn't expect him to be quicker than Hamilton.....
....who seemed to overdrive right from the off, on the last go. Didn't look much bothered though, so he looks to be in good spirits. EDIT - guess it's because he feels he couldn't do more with a glazed disc.
Vettel third, a little surprising, but the nearest Mercedes-challenger is 2,1 seconds behind! It's unbelieveable. Will Ricciardo's time stand, 'cause he got into picture while off the track and that was on his fastest lap.
Alonso fourth which is better than expected, but I guess the rain helped (him.) Some positives to take away from today for Ferrari, and into tomorrow, 'cause they were quite quick in the dry this morning.
Räikkönen not able to improve on a so-so but still OK lap in Q3.
Nothing to jump about for, for Williams. Sixth and ninth, which means, if it's dry tomorrow, they'll come forward.
Magnussen has built into things nicely, 'cause he was far away from Button's pace in the free practice sessions. Dissapointed in Button.
Surprised to see Kvyat quicker than Vergne when the sessions been run on inters. Good job.
Perez beating Hülkenberg..................
Ericsson - ok, he got put on the track surrounded by other cars, but still, beaten by Lotterer who makes his F1 GP debut this weekend. And it's wet. Embarrassing.

Should have had a gravel trap. Shame the FIA replaced it in 2011 with asphalt.

I wish Lewis would get a different cap, that just looks silly with the flat brim.
I can't say I agree, Lewis' cap looks like something you might actually wear day-to-day, it's smart imo.
Glazed front brake says Lewis. Well, it wouldn't be a Saturday if he didn't have some sort of problem...

What ? I was asking a question. I could only watch with not sound and a horrible internet connection. I was wondering if Lewis's lap was compromised by a much slower Ferrari, that's all. Why are people on this forum so quick to jump to conclusions based on almost nothing ? With half a lap to go Lewis looked as though he was around two or three seconds behind to me.

Wow - on that side by side between Lewis and Nico (shown on sky), they were so close at the final corner, it was the drive to the line where Nico got the advantage. Good stuff from both Merc drivers, no huge errors on their best laps so I think some people are being a little harsh.
Good lap too from Vettel, considering the low downforce setting and little amount of running this weekend - I expect the rain helped as no-one had any experience in those conditions. Another good performance from Alonso and Ricciardo would probably have been 3rd without that mistake at the end, did well to keep it pointing in the right direction and get the lap in, I can't imagine it won't stand as nothing from FIA about track limits this week and he didn't gain an advantage.
Also a special mention to Magnussen, Kvyat, Bianchi and Lotterer

NR's first Q3 lap was a monster. I'm not 100% sure, but that looked like four-wheel drift coming out of Pouhon.

Really sweet pole for Nico - consistent in the crunch! Hamilton right behind him though - should be a great race tomorrow.
Awesome P3 by Seb with little free practice running - How About That?
Kimi is starting 9 places forward from last race where he finished 6th, so it's all good.
Shame Danil didn't make it in Q3 - very close! But looking forward to forward strides tomorrow.

Not that long ago, if you went over the limit in Spa you were punished for your mistake.
It's like playing a video game these days. Btw that's what Rosberg Sr. said about the new Nurburgring back in the 80s.

Is there a speedtrap-document on FIA's website? I just can't find it.
Edit: For qualifying of course.

Look at those Mercedes cars fly ... it's beyond embarrassing at this point for the other teams. This is worse than anything Red Bull, and maybe even Ferrari ever did.
That said, it is still fun to watch the F1 cars at Spa. Leaving aside their sound for the moment, these 2014 F1 cars are still fast, and seeing them push through Blanchimont in the wet continues to excite. It is however disappointing that almost all gravel traps have been removed: did Ricciardo set his fastest time while going all over the lines in that last run in Q3? He seemed to struggle with keeping the car within the lines coming up to the Bus Stop.
Unfortunately there can be no doubt about who will finish first and second tomorrow, unless fate intervenes, so hopefully we'll see another interesting race between Alonso and the Red Bulls, and - perhaps - the Williams cars.

Of course it means something, it means Nico out-qualified him and starts ahead. Otherwise why bother with qualy if it isn't going to 'mean anything'?

Brake issues apparently. As in he didn't quite know when to use them at the proper time......
