All good thing must come to an end and in Nascar that means the end of the fishing season. No more sardines!

P1030729.jpg

However, not everyone sees "catch a sardine" the same way.

(Dale Sr. doing it right)

(Clint Bowyer, doing it wrong)

Obviously this means there are some folks "outside looking in". It's an odd expression, and to me it literally translates like this:

nascar-waiting-line-inspection-16532793.

So, what happens this weekend?

Well, since it's the last weekend of the regular season, a great number of alternate realities are possible

Kyle Busch dominates the NNS race (well, maybe not so alternative, let's jinx him!)

0.jpg

JJ wrecks again! (not that it will hurt him much, he will still Vettel the Chase)

0907nascarb500x300.jpg

Some lucky guy wins the last sardine (Why not Sato?)

dm_140706_nascar_almirola_interview.jpg

Flavio returns!

piquet-briatore.jpg

Monty finally wins on an oval!

juan-pablo-montoya-funny-nascar-sprint-c

Oh wait! He's not here. Lets skip this scenario for now.

So as you can see it's stuff as usual. Drivers qualify, drivers race, lucky winner gets a sardine and THEN someone enters Mike Helton's room and the final Chase Grill gets stamped.

0OcSBVw.jpg

Now, here's a funny bit, Nascar has told you points are useless. Well.. not quite so, since we have a number lower than 16 winners, it means the last grill spots are filled with...

ESPN, as usual, will make sure action and drama keeps flowing, even if nothing is really going on like in homestead last year.

espn_those_guys_hvae_all_the_fun_2011_a_

Actually, the race is aired on ABC, but you get the same ESPN crew. Hey! Stop cursing!

So, where will this forced epic Hitckokian drama take place?

hitchcock.jpg

Richmond, another track in the large american Speedway family. (I hear they got relatives in Germany and Japan as well)

rir-raceway.jpg

It's got a straight, pits, turns... yep checks out as a race track. Just needs a little extra...

(Making room for a tilke runoff)

Shedule:

Please consult your local nigerian scammer for detailed listings, I can only say races will take place at this Friday with the Insurance Series and the Mobile Stuff going live on Saturday. Any further details will place me under grave danger from some unknown Will Power Followers Cult.

Time to put points right where they belong!

Hi all ,

As an added bonus  the Joe Falk car with David Stremme driving ( usually the #33 )  will run the #90   with a Truxmore era paint job in  tribute  of beloved local car owner Junie Donlavey  who passed away earlier this year.

Richmond aka the last race I'll bother to watch this season since I'm boycotting the Chase. I never liked The Chase to begin with but I never dreamed they would figure out a way to make it more dumb and contrived, but they did. I'll just casually follow along via internet headlines and awesome forum posts like the OP. So my remote will thank me because it'll stay glued to football instead of flipping back and forth.

And I think it is a bit ironic that NASCAR keeps changing the Chase to manufacture drama and this year Dale Jr and Jeff Gordon have been within 5 pts of each other all year. If it was settled the traditional motorsports way, you'd have the two most popular drivers of the last 10 to 15 years fighting over the championship in a close battle. That's they're dream scenario. But now with all their contrived changes, one of those guys could easily get knocked out via some fluke (like crashing into a jet dryer...hey, its happened before!)

Brian Glanville, perhaps.  Scots football fanzine The Absolute Game used to have a take-off of him called Bruno Glanvilla, who would wax lyrical about the Stadio del Ochilview and the catenaccissimo of Meadowbank Thistle.

Looks like 30% of thunderstorms early increasing to 70% after midnight from this big front also rumbling through the Northeast this afternoon. Possibly a shortened race?

Rain-shortened race in the Sprint Cup, and either Michael Annett or the two Front Row Motorsport David's take the win, would've been awesome. Then we'd have 14 different winners, and only Kenseth and Newman(or maaybe Biffle) in on points. While having 4-5 drivers outside the top 20 in the chase!

If you thought last year's uproar over the Bowyer shenanigans was massive,

Imagine  if someone like Cole Whitt (33rd in points now)  snags a race shortened rain win and qualifies for the Chase  by just making it into the top 30 with a win.  That would make the post race discussions  even better than the actual race .

Btw  an afternoon shower passed thru about 1:15  , so expect a very 'tight" schedule to make sure they get this race completed  which may make the "debris" cautions less likely

OK I'm going to admit it, I don't have a bloody clue what the chase is about or why they have it. They race, like, all year, then reset the points towards for no apparent reason?!

In the "going mad because suddenly the NFL is on" stakes, it beats panicking and shutting down your series in August.

Was initally thinking of Whitt, but decided that he would need the guys ahead to be too far behind for it to happen ;)

Kenny Schrader will be in a #90 car ahead of the pace car to honor Junie Donlavey

Also lap90 will have some sort of tribute for Junie

dude  must miss the old days at the track  with  the trees along the backstretch that  you could climb offered you a better view of the race.

What really amazes me is how he managed to elude the  usual line of police officers or track officials that stand there and tell you to move along if you attempt to linger in one spot  more that 3 seconds.

Caution actually didn't come out until after he started back down. Apparently even he got bored with the proceedings.....that was an insomia cure, especially for a short track. Penske's 400th major series win though...

  Good Day  Folks ,

Amazingly    the fence climbing FOOL   was convicted of a misdemeanor   and  fined $100  and given a year in jail with 11 months suspended . Plus he can serve his 30 days on the weekend.

Not much of  a punishment  in my opinion .

Expect far greater security round the outside fence   from now on .

       Paul
