I guess it won't happen, but would dearly love to see it happen.

I never truly was a fan back in the day, but his departure made me realise what a character we lost.

BBC asked him and he said no. Hadn't even considered it. Plus he didn't say this but his age would rule him out of most seats. Which team wants to take a risk on a 38 year old?

The guy became completely disillusioned with the series. I have no idea what he'd think if he came back and experienced what it is now.

Won't happen.

When asked by the BBC this afternoon he made it pretty clear that he felt perfectly in place at his side of the ocean and had no wish whatsoever to go back.

How about Will Power and Helio Castroneves too, since they were quicker than Montoya this year?

In F1 his car control was on another level, but like Kimi he was born in the wrong era, those type of racers belonged in the 70's and 80's, not with the white teeth triathlon bores we have to put up with now. For sure ;)

What parallel universe do you inhabit where Raikkonen and Montoya had unsuccessful careers?  ;)

Not disrespecting their achievements, just think they would have appreciated a slightly more dangerous era!

JPM is very happy where he is. He's seen the racing world outside of F1 and has never given a hint of having any sort of longing for the old days in F1. I'd prefer to watch him get fully back up to speed in Indycar.

Everyone in Formula One looks miserable anyway.

Except Ricciardo. He'll get his.

Been there, done that. Won't happen even if Haas offered a ride.

So basically the F1 press corp is forum level.

*See driver in F1 paddock, driver not currently racing in F1

*Ask if it's possible they might race in F1.

So is it possible that Lauda might race in F1?

I thought it was interesting he was a guest of Mclaren and not Williams. Just because of the way he left those two teams. Guess Ron Dennis doesn't hold too many grudges.

Maybe Penske are going to run Mclaren's Le Mans GTE effort? Or Mclaren are selling something high-tech to their NASCAR team? Or maybe Montoya's talking to some Honda people about being the factory's preferred Indycar driver? I know he's a Penske driver but Chip must feel stupid about passing on Montoya now.

Or maybe he's on a european vacation and decided to take in a grand prix.

Montoya was my favourite in F1, particularly when the Schumacher domination became wearisome. Would love for him to come back, but there's absolutely no chance.

Never was a fan of him but he would actually be good for F1. He was a character like Schumacher, not sissy like the drivers we have today.

But of course it won't happen. He made clear that he hates the current F1.

Montoya loves Frank and has no problems with Williams, I only heard him mention Ron once earlier when he called him Roger :D

Yeah that is not going to happen, although I'm wondering what he's doing strundling around the paddock. I have a feeling it has something to do with Haas, Juan might be a good test driver and advisor! I wouldn't be surprised if he pops up in one of those two roles, Haas has a lot of work to do for 2016.

Just because a driver is in the paddock, doesn't mean to say they are going to be in the running for an F1 drive next year. I mean, Pippa Mann has gone to the Italian GP too but I don't think it's to tout for a drive...

He has been doing a lot of TV interviews all weekend. More than you would expect for a guy just visiting while on holiday.

If he was just visiting to watch the racing he would just be an interviewee on the grid, not walking back and forwards between the TV guys doing interviews throughout free practice and qualifying.

He must be up to something.

Well, so did The Hoff last year at this same track, yet I don't see him racing.

I think KITT didn't pass the crash test.

He's plugging his son for an F1 ride no doubt. Seems that drivers are younger and younger and genes are taken into account.

Sebastian Montoya already has some wins under his belt. Should be with Mac at around 12 years old...

Is he still on for an Indycar drive next year?

Every generation of drivers has no characters until the next generation comes along. Then they were all characters. People will be talking about Hamilton, Alonso etc. as characters in years to come while moaning about whoever is driving then.

"Federico Montoya, brother of WilliamsF1 star Juan Pablo, finished ninth in the first round of the BMW ADAC Championship, held at Hockenheim today.

The race was won by 16 year-old Sebastian Vettel who held off his teammate Dominik Jackson and Kiwi, Chris Van der Drift."

I think the moment that JPM lost interest in F1 was at Canada, he pitted under a safety car and the FIA turned on the red light at the pit exit, JPM blew through it and rejoined the race. He was penalized. The following year, when JPM was gone the FIA changed the rules on the pit exit red light, treating it exactly like JPM treated it. The truth was JPM was in a close fight with a red car that was just behind him even as he exited the pit lane under red. Once again the FIA showed that its in the business of deciding who wins and who loses. JPM was never the same.

I don't think so. Massa and Fisichella were both black flagged for exactly the same thing in 2007 - when JPM had already left F1.

What are you talking about? There are enough drivers in the past who were actually known as charesmatic characters when they were active. Prost, Senna, Lauda, Schumacher, Berger, Villeneuve, ...
Today there is only Raikonnen who is in a similar league like Montoya back then.
