I hope both Mercs take themselves out. 'Nando for the win!

Massa takes out Bottas at the first corner because he can't stand the Finn driving away from him for another race.
Fred jumps both McLarens at the start and Magnussen spends the rest of the race over-aggressively defending from the Red Bulls, slowing them all down enough for Raikkonen to jump all three with an alternate strategy.
Ferrari comes home to deliver an unexpected 1-2 and the masses of tifosi promptly implode with excitement.

The funny thing is.. to say that Ricciardo (or a Redbull) would win during the winter would require a similar kind of story. But it's happened 3 times so far..

Hamilton's going to win. I have a feeling. DRS is less effective here and that should keep Nico behind. Hoping for a good race from Fernando but he won't be able to do anything tomorrow. Think it will be a boring race. One stopper with not much overtaking.

Except it needs to be KR's turn to win, as he hasn't won in front of the tifosi yet. I'd imagine he'd probably be smiling if that happened after the season he's had.Hamilton has a brake problem, Rosberg a gearbox problem and both retire.

any chance of rain..?
20% chance of a shower/thunderstorm by 3pm. If it does manage to rain it'll also take quite a while for the rain to stop

Massa desperately needs a good result.
Hopefully the race has some sort of spice. Without SC's the race is over very quick, shortest race all year. And a 1 stop makes it worse. Bottas will be interesting to watch, as will the Mercs. Redbull should have better race pace. McLaren are a bit of an unknown but I expect them to drift back.
Flat spots could be interesting, braking is tricky with these cars and you don't want to be carrying a big flatspot for half the race. Driveshafts can be prone to failure here as well due to the kerbs and accelerating hard while riding them.
It's also pretty much the worst turn 1 on the calender and especially in the midfield it could be messy. Hold your breath off of the start, anything could happen. And if anything bad happens, remember.. it's not on purpose.
It's been 2 months since a Redbull didn't win but looks like that streak will be breaking.

Bottas jumps Rosberg in start if both gets normal starts. Then lap 2 Hamilton locks up to T1 and Bottas gets through.
Heard it here first

The Williams cars will be interesting, though perhaps they already missed their best chance of a win in Austria. Who knows.
Under normal circumstances the Mercedes team should run away with the win without too much trouble, so we'll see if they can keep their heads cool.
More likely to produce some good racing is the little McLaren/Red Bull/Alonso group. That could probably end up in a dozen different orders; should be fun!

Only one stop, so strategy choice is very limited, this track will favour folk who can overtake on the tarmac, and those who can defend well (and legally - those are long straights Kevin....).
I think this track favours Lewis, Valterri and Fred, but the Merc engine is probably the key to success.
Mercs 1 and 2, Williams 3

This article is still relevant for race pace analysis from FP2.
Bottas looked very impressive, even compared to Rosberg. Rosberg wasn't happy on Friday so it depends how much set-up changes helped him since then. If he's not improved drastically this could be a very interesting race!

Not an awful bet. If the Mercedes run into problems, its not going to be Ricciardo waiting in the wings this time, but one of the Williams.I may be stupid/crazy/hopeful/living in fantasy land/insane, or any combination of the before mentioned, but I just put $10 on Bottas for the win @ 13 to 1 lol !

I think we are due a routine race; Hamilton will get into the first corner first, Nico will not be able to pass, and it will be a simple Mercedes 1-2.
The lack of any decent tyre strategy variation won't help either.

Rosberg: "If you are behind after the start it's difficult to win the race. That's because in a one-stop race there's little you can do in terms of strategy. You have to pass on track. That's why I'll try winning at the start immediately."
I think I'll just close my eyes at Turn 1. This will not be pretty.

They couldn't have picked a worse track to come to after Spa's incident. Merc 1 and 2 on the grid into turn one at Monza with cold brakes could be very ugly.

Hamilton and Rosberg collide again, Gutierrez takes 5 out at the first corner.
Bottas win from Ricciardo and Alonso third.
Kobayashi finishes 8th and quits Caterham tomorrow

Personally I'm hoping for another game of Liuzziball and the first 4 or 5 rows don't make it out of the first chicane, but failing that I will settle for absolutely anything interesting to happen at all, so that I feel some solace that getting up before sunrise on my only day off of the week to watch spoiled kids race cars was the right thing to do.

That's awfully generous of you. Will you allow topless grid girls and an eternal ban on podium interviews too please?

Nico's starts have not been blinding, though. It could well be Bottas in the firing line at turn 1.

The start should be very interesting.

Please not that!!!! Hopefully the real interest will come from mid-field and intra-team battles, not the first chicane. Massa is a worry though ...... fast starter, something to prove and nothing to lose.

If it can happen once, it can happen again. And hopefully will.
