If you made all that money making smart business decisions, why would you spend that money making silly business decisions?

Because life is about spending the money that you make.

You're our resident karting fella. What was he racing before and how was he getting on?

According to driverdb, his karting highlights:

2012 2nd Andrea Margutti Trophy - KF3

2012 1st SKUSA SuperNationals - TaG Junior

2010 1st Florida Winter Tour - Rotax Mini Max

2009 2nd Florida Winter Tour - Rotax Micro Max

Ted Kravitz in his Singapore GP Qualifying Notebook said that the Stroll deal has collapsed, and that Kaltenborn was called into a meeting with Bernie during FP3: http://www1.skysport...ebook-singapore (21 minutes in)

What does that mean in practice? Any risk of them folding?

Given Bernie's views on women in F1, perhaps he had some washing up.

"....I'm happy for you to fold, I want three-car teams anyway."

Or, "here, 40m to get you through the season."

Possibly a mixture of that: "OK, I'll pay you debts but only if you won't come back"

There are hundreds of British club drivers who could replicate the Skusa and Florida Winter Tour results so there's nothing truly exceptional there.

The Margutti Trophy is a one-off event of historical value, but it's not a major championship.

For his wealth and the opportunity he had Stroll should be a multiple CIK champion. The kid can pedal, but he has had vast wealth behind him. The kind of wealth where you admit that if he isn't 10 seconds down the road every race you have to have doubts.

Well, the rumour is Sauber wanted too much, so Stroll has headed for Marussia, possibly shown the direction by Ferrari.  Perhaps Bernardo is expressing to Kaltenborn that a) the offer is a decent one and b) Sauber will be more toast than a Hovis factory fire if they don't take it.

I would be very distraught if Sauber would no longer exist. They have a certain heritage. One most of us don't wish it to disappear.

You can't compare the two, we have no idea what asking price entails, what debts are being taken over, what contracts need to be honoured, they are not selling a car.

Full stats are here: https://www.driverdb...s/lance-stroll/

He has a few top 6 championship placings in CIK and WSK competition.
