Hello

I was wondering if anyone out there knows if the 1983 Race of Champions from Brands Hatch is available to watch online.

A few years ago I can remember the whole race being available on YouTube, but that seems to have been taken down.

Alternatively, if anyone out there has a lap chart they could e-mail me, that would be very much appreciated.

I'm particularly interested in what happened to Nigel Mansell in that race, for the book I am currently writing on Team Lotus covering the post-Colin Chapman seasons of 1983 to 1994.

I hope someone out there can help.

Thanks

There is a lap chart in vol. 11 of Paul Sheldon's book series, p. 279, which gives the following course:

After lap 1 Mansell was in sixth position (behind Arnoux, Rosberg, Sullivan, Jones and Watson), then he lost a place to Henton on lap 2, fell behind Rebaque, Johansson, Serra and Boesel on lap 4, gained a position when Johansson retired on lap 5 and retired himself on lap 7.

Grand Prix International magazine wrote:

Mansell was driving a Renault-engined Lotus for the first time, this the second chassis built which was constructed in four days, working flat out. The big problem was the lack of traction, so Lotus tried a Toleman-type secondary wing in the morning and then a four winged unit in the afternoon. The latter was fitted for the race and Mansell had a new twin turbo engine fitted after crashing in the morning and clogging the engine with dirt. He quickly retired from the race, again because of handling.

Thanks very much for your reply ReWind, you've given me some very useful information there!

I knew about the four tier rear wing, but not the Toleman type, so I'll have to see if I can find some images of it.

Thanks once again.
