Remember when Jenson Button finished 5th in the Brazilian GP and won the 2009 championship? I do, but barely. Since that day I have changed jobs 3 times and lived in 3 different countries, and it feels like a lifetime ago.

While Vettel and Red Bull's record-breaking success of 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 have safely been written into the record books, it appears that 2014 is the year their streak will finally come to an end.

After finishing 6th in the Italian GP, Vettel has just 106 points to Rosberg's 238, meaning he is now facing a deficit of 132 points with a maximum of 175 points remaining (6 rounds with double points in Abu Dhabi). All in all, he is just one round away from mathematically being out of the running of a championship for the first time since Brazil 2009.

So, after which race will he be out of the running? Will he win in Singapore and prolong the inevitable?!

And just for fun, how much has your life changed in these last 5 years?

He was out of contention during pre-season testing.

Anyone's guess.
Realistically, about 5 races ago.

After Australia. Ok maybe Malaysia.

But would it not be more relevant to ask this question for Ricciardo?

He is out in Singapore if Rosberg wins and Vettel finishes 7th or worse.

Since I think Vettel should easily be a top 4 finisher this weekend I'll say Japan.

When the era of Ricciardos championships will end?

I guess we will have to wait a few years for that question to be asked.

2009, that's five years ago since we had another WDC than Vettel. My daughter who was born in 2009 has never seen any other world champion. And, off course she watches Formula 1. "Daddys cars is on tv".

It's like the USSR, you grew up with it, and suddenly the world changed.   ;)

It was a glorious 4 years watching Vettel earn his 4 championships and another watching him contend in '09.  Most of his fans agreed every year that it might be over, so we didn't go in with wild expectations that he would win.  In 2010 and 2012 it was close; the former against 4 top competitors and the latter making up 40 points to do it - just fantastic.  So obviously the last 5 years of having a contender in it was a lot of fun.  During the fun I earned my doctorate and became an uncle to more brats.  Apart from that, not too many changes.

I don't know the OPs intent, but threads of this nature are quite the tribute to Sebastian, whether made out of recognition of his brilliance during the era or out of spite.  I'll give the OP the benefit of the doubt and conclude he or she wished to honor Sebastian for his amazing performance as a driver.  No driver deserves it more.

It's not an end of an era if Vettel wins 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

I think the OP means a new era of regulations.  But Seb will be racy in this era as well, so good point.

The "era" in this case, isn't that the winnings streak that will be over?

if he wins the WDC (a 1,000,000,000-1 now) he's the greatest driver of all time IMO.

I can't know what the intention for the thread is either but what comes across is "Can I come in for a gloat?"

So, closed.
