I'm not sure if it's appropriate to re-use last year's thread, but Suzuka's annual live stream of F1 cars arriving at airport is going on now! :D

[EDIT] seems it's finished now, that was quick for this year ):

So do all the teams use one Logistics company then?

They use DHL, there was an article in the Singapore papers last week and they interviewed the guy who runs the show. He's been running if for a long time now and said he never lost a single item before. He also said one of the most challenging aspect is when they need to fly in the parts for some last minute repairs.

But funny that they don't use their own planes, uses Singapore Airlines instead to ship the stuff from Singapore to Japan...Not sure if they always use the national carrier of the last host country.

But funny that they don't use their own planes, uses Singapore Airlines instead to ship the stuff from Singapore to Japan...Not sure if they always use the national carrier of the last host country.

according to Suzuka twitter ( https://twitter.com/suzuka_event ) ;

  •  The flight covered by today's live stream is the 4th cargo flight, containing cargoes of Ferrari, Sauber, STR, and total weight is 112t
  •  The 1st and 2nd cargo flights have already arrived on 23 Sept, the 3rd flight at 1320 of today, JPT
  •  The 5th and 6th cargo flights are scheduled to arrive on 26 Sept
  •  Total 6 cargo flights, total weight 665t
  •  Clear customs at Chubu Airport then transported on land to Suzuka (90km, 1h20m by road)
  •  It takes about 100 trucks to carry all the equipments

I have an impression that it's always Singapore Airlines that I see on this live streaming thing for quite a long time. I'm not sure all 6 flights are by Singapore Airlines or they choose it or just coincidence.

The calendar has been in order of "Singapore-Japan" for quite long time, so they tend to use airline of prev GP host country to transport to the following GP?

But last year it was "Singapore - S.Korea - Japan", and according to this thread it was Nippon Cargo, not Korean Air.

Of the current grid, Vettel has won here 4 times whereas Alonso, Button & Kimi have won once each.

  • 800yen ($8.00)
  • Available at GP Official Store and Circuit Plaza at Suzuka Circuit during GP weekend

Mansell will make a special guest appearance for this year's Suzuka GP, attend some events such as talk shows there, and drive Williams Honda FW11 as a demo-run in pre-race ceremony event on Sunday. That's why.

Mansell moustaches and vending machines that dispense used knickers. A truly bizarre nation, yet one I would dearly love to visit.

Suzuka is also wonderful, flowing, fast and one of the remaining events on the calendar that actually looks like a proper circuit.

If that's so, then one look at the Parabolica tells me the FIA are atheists.

I worked with DHL before, and one key thing about DHL Express, who is in charge of F1 logistics, are their expertise in negotiating with customs, and have a great rapport with customs all over the world in case they need to ship in or ship out urgent items.

Remember though, under the DHL umbrella, there's DHL Mail, DHL Supply Chain, DHL Global, and also DHL Express. It's really tough to get a job in DHL Express.

They do make it sound big by not losing a single item, but trust me, in DHL standards, it's a piece of cake ;)

Maybe they use or ask different airlines for non-European rounds?

As I said, I have a feeling it's always Singapore Airlines I see on this stream thing arriving at Japan for quite a while except last year when it was Nippon Cargo (calendar is Sing->JP for many years with last year's Sing>S.Korea>JP as only exception).

BTW according to reports here, from this year, teams dismantle the cars and put each parts separately in those cargo boxes to transport due to the increased complexity of the car, most likely about PU. Until last year they used to ship cars in assembled state in protective cover with both wings detached. No wonder they couldnt catch the cars in porter cage this year.

hahaha...i left DHL back in 2011, to Philip Morris. :) And yes, They are still sponsoring and 'own' Ferrari right till 2020, with about 1 bil in sponsor money. My mates still at Marlboro still get chances year in year out to hangout with Fred in the pits when the circus comes to town.

I think to save time, which is why for flyaway races, they use the country's official or rather national airlines. For the Euro rounds, they ship it over by land (Trucks) and sea..

I honestly can't think of one sector in the calendar better than sector one of Suzuka. My favourite track on the calendar if I'm honest.

Can't wait for the race!
