I have driven around Pacific Raceways at Kent Washington BUT my wife has forbidden me to RACE at Kent because it is dangerous, and the trees come right to the edge of the track on the back portion of the track. I enjoy racing, but I have no desire to be killed of injured, so I do not  choose to race there.

I remember reading about it often back when racing was in its best days.

It was most often simply called Kent.

The only death I know of there was a drag racer in 2010 who died when the netting crumpled his dragster.

Pacific Raceways was in Kent, Washington. . It was known as Seattle International Raceway from 1968 to 2002. While the main name may have changed now and then, everyone just called it 'Kent'.

A poor chap named Ray Laing died there on May 14, 1961. He appears to have been driving a sprint car in a formula libre event, according to Motorsport Memorial.

Does Motorsport Memorial have that as a Formula Libre race? I'm pretty certain it was a sprint car race (yes, on a road course), likely sanctioned by WRA.

Also, Stan Burnett died testing his Burnett Mk. 4 Can-Am car at the track.

The entry in Motorsport Memorial doesn't directly specify the race category, but implies it was a 'big car' sprint race. The formule libre race had occurred earlier in the day:

And of course Innes Ireland had a big shunt there as related in All Arms & Elbows

Thank you very much.

Does anyone have more information on the races at that time?
