Some people are feeling nostalgic about the possibility of having to wake up early for the Japanese GP. I'm not too happy about the possibility of an early wake-up (even though it's better than a complete wash-out). But what's your preferred start time.

The typical afternoon slot is getting increasingly problematic for me. It's the best time on a Sunday to spend doing something outdoors and the 3pm race kind of splits the day. Morning race at around 10am would almost be better, you could still sleep enough and have the whole day after the race.

But my preferred time slot is evening. A race between 7pm and 11pm is ideal, I've had the whole day before it, then some fun in the evening by watching a race. Even 5pm would be better than 3pm, two more hours to do something before the race. And I can even deal with a very late night start, as long as the race finishes before 3am, I can live with it.

So, I prefer the afternoon races in the Americas. An evening race in Europe would do the same but will probably not happen. A night race would screw the visitors and series in Europe don't have such pressure to please the American TV audience.

02:00PM in all countries except for Monaco where start should be whenever the Prince wants it to start.

I miss the option to vote multiple answers.

I'd prefer either a 8AM or a 8PM race&qualifying start time (CET). So the current Asian/American races start times :)

Most races to start at 8PM, with every now and then one at 8AM.

Classical 2 pm which means all European races. But US and Canada (8pm) is also ok.

The evening is a nice time for a race, though I'd be happy with races around 10ish in the morning as well. I want to be able to watch a race live and have the day free.

Alternatively, while it wouldn't be my first preference, having Asian races start at 11pm European time would be better than the current early morning slot. That's probably more workable than turning them into night races.

I like the early ones personally (7am would be the ideal start time for me), because it means I have the most chance of watching the race relatively uninterrupted and also leaves the rest of the day to do things

I'm from the U.K and if I was being selfish my perfect time for qualifying and the race would be 7 pm, that way you could have all Sunday to go off and enjoy your day. I honestly think the viewing figures would grow massively as well for nobody likes being stuck in the house for the afternoon especially in the summer.

My wish is basically impossible because the majority of the races are held east of the U.K so their timezones are ahead of us, we can all dream I suppose.

I prefer the traditional european races with start at 2pm. Stand up at 8am, go to the morning pint at 10.30, have a good meal at midday, rest one hour, watch F1, watch a football match, do a little bit else in the late afternoon, watch "Tatort" and then bedtime. It's a ritual. :p

Couldn't care less. I'll watch the race whatever time it is on. So no preference.

Morning, definitely. 8AM is fantastic if possible. Living in the States for so long, it became my Sunday ritual to wake up early and get hyped for F1.

The afternoon is actually a terrible time for it, in my opinion. Its smack dab in the middle of the day, making it difficult if I wanted to do something else during the day. I don't want to revolve my weekends around sitting at home, waiting for F1. Watching it first thing in the morning and then having the rest of the day free is *sooooo* much better.

Australia/Japan/China. Wake up and watch the race, without having to watch the clock and wait for 2:00 PM :)

As I'm living in the US this year, I get to watch Japan on Friday and Sunday night instead, which is brilliant.

Hotel Bar till midnight, take up a few beverages to the room and get laid out on the bed for Quali/Grand Prix - then sleep in till' lunchtime.

Excellent :smoking:

Ordinarily, when in GMT - I don't mind the early Asias', as they still give me the whole weekend to do whatever else. On a lunchtime start, my weekend pretty much vanishes it seems.

Part of Global F1 experience is watching live races in middle of night, early morning or after dinner.

Voted no preferred time. I like being able to say I am crazy enough to get up at silly o'clock (OK, 6-7am) for the likes of Australia and Japan but equally I find it easier to get excited or motivated when it comes to an afternoon/evening race - more time to build up to it during the day. I just plan my weekends around the race time.

Early morning for sure; 6, 7, or 8 ish ensures watching the race while enjoying moring coffee, and then leaves the day free to do other stuff.

Normally I love the late ones, staying up all night waiting for it is exciting.

that said, this race is probably going to be the first one I've not seen live since Spa 2005 (only missed that because I was in hospital!)

I love the track but if its a Merc 1-2 in qually then, I'll stay in bed and record it.  I really don't fancy staying up most of the night to watch a Merc cruise.

Living in New Zealand the europe races are at midnight which I have always enjoyed although Monday morning can be a little tough after getting to bed after 2am.

As I get a little older I wouldn't mind them being on a couple of hours earlier so maybe I'll have to move to Australia.

Very early morning races are so special imho.
You're alone in the dark. A cup of cofee in the hand and the dog sleeping on your side.
Then the race starts..

I agree Dave, I don't mind the midnight starts all that much, but, yes, Mondays are always a struggle . . usually Brazil is the hardest, what is it? 4am Monday morning start or something like that

About 2-3am if it's Australia opening the season. The rest of the time, not fussed.

I always love early morning races as they never interfere with anything else I have on, so an 8am start every time would be perfect.

The only time slot that's ever displeased me in the UK is night races in California. Too early to consider trying to get some decent sleep beforehand, but finishing late enough to ruin the following day. Fontana excepted.

I used to quite like these middle-of-the night races, but Bernie decided that all eastern races had to be on later for European audiences.

But I generally don't mind. As a UK viewer, the European races start at 1pm, which is fine but I did prefer it when qualifying was an hour earlier at 12. I can't remember when they changed that. Because qualifying is shorter, I think it would be good to be able to do something else in the afternoon afterwards.

As an European I quite like the American races at late afternoon / early evening. The European races at 2pm are actually the worst for me, the usual Sunday family obligations sometimes make it complicated to watch the race.

Make it part of family obligation to watch race live, problem solved.

On the east coast of Australia all the races start at 10pm. Which suits me perfectly as I prefer a 2-3am bedtime if work etc doesn't get in the way. Coverage begins at 8:30 and ends at 12/12:30. Asian races aren't too bad, but I prefer the later start. The Americas races are shocking for us, 3-4am on a Monday morning.

However I was in Europe this year for one of the races and my god it was awful. 2pm Sunday is a crap time for a race. I can't believe you lot are (or are assumed to be by Bernie) so staunch about it as a timeslot. And what about practice at 10am! No way am I getting up to watch a sporting event (assuming I'm not working) other than a test match at 10am.

2pm CET suits me fine. As long as I'm nowhere near Europe.

9.20pm Sunday evening here in Australia (i.e., the 2pm European starting time).  Most convenient, you can do other stuff than watch F1 in the evening.

It really annoyed me when the Aussie GP went from starting at 3am to 5am. Its a lot easier to stay up until 4.30 on a Saturday night then sleep in on Sunday than it is to get up at 4.30 and then its impossible to go back to sleep at 7am... why Bernie thought that would be more convenient I have no idea.

My preference was the original setup for the Australian GPs, which from Europe basically meant staying up late on Saturday night. Nothing could beat an all-nighter ending with watching the race.

Since Bernie messed with the Australian GP start time I've never watched it live, always either recorded it or missed it altogether, since it's on too late now to stay up and has been pushed into that awkward time that involves getting up early on a Sunday morning...no thanks.

I enjoy getting up early for the far eastern races. There's no real need to have night races and lit up tracks (which is the very opposite of a greener F1) in my book. I also enjoy the later evening times of the races in the American continents. Of course all the European races start at 1.00 pm UK time and is fine too. Just as long as I know what time the race starts (and qualifying of course) is all that matters to me. So the alarm will be set for 5.30 in the morning and up to now 6.30 on Sunday.

As early as possible to get it all out the way or it tends to swallow the whole weekend.

6 or 7pm European time. Just because races and quali at mid-afternoon tend to disrupt the weekends too much.

10.30 AM... or just bring warm up @ breakfast back. ;)

10-12 would be fine (Dutchie time), you have the rest of the day to do stuff or watch other sports. Any post-race mess can be resolved before evening. :) I wouldn't mind the Canadia/Brazil/US timeslot which is 20.00 most often. You can have dinner, some coffee and the race as dessert.

But bring back the original Australia timeslot. Nothing beats starting the season at 5 AM or in the old days watch the championship be decided in the early morning.

I strongly dislike the night races everywhere, it just kills the atmosphere for me. Singapore had GP2 last year while it was still daylight. You see much more of the city. And with Malaysia you get dusk to soon when a monsoon hits.

in Australia i was never really a fan of the traditional 11pm start time on a Sunday night, made school the next day a bit tricky. been in Toronto for ages now and the just before 8am time is sweet. get it out the way and my boy joins me whilst eating brekkie.
