I am very sorry to report that David Venables, prolific author, former Official Solicitor and long-time Assistant Editor of the VSCC Bulletin died this morning. His writings will be familiar to many TNFers and, indeed, David was an occasional poster on here some years ago, his contributions always being worth reading.

I can do no better than to quote Bulletin Editor John Staveley from the VSCC Forum:

It is with immense sadness that I have to tell you that David, my Assistant Editor, died this morning. He will be a huge loss to the Bulletin and I, personally, cannot imagine how that void will be filled for me. David and I spoke every day, sometimes for an hour or more, and he always amazed me by his huge knowledge and wisdom and his enthusiasm to share that knowledge.
David was a vital part of the Bulletin team and could absolutely be relied upon to put our magazine first in his priorities and to provide help for the Editor way beyond the call of duty. We have lost a great man and I have lost a loyal friend who I cannot think how to replace. David, of course, worked for both David Thirlby and John Warburton and how he found time to put so much effort into the Bulletin between writing his thoroughly researched books on motoring history is beyond understanding. He reported Silverstone, Prescott, Goodwood and the Brighton run for many years and contributed articles on other subjects including Sidelights. A tireless worker who also proof read every issue, David wrote much of the Grand Prix Failures series but I am determined that it will continue.
David was a regular Forumist as 'Onslow'.
Our thoughts go out to Terry and his family.

Editor

Oh dear - R.I.P.  My father is a VSCC member, and I have been greatly enjoying David's "Grand Prix Failures" articles in the Bulletin.

And today's Times has included David in its list of those who have birthdays today.

Normally I only have the Times on Saturdays, so that'll teach me.
