When I read about updates I fear they would pave the whole of Wisconsin to host the race, but then I remembered Indycar is not F1

Too late to get upset, Nascar already got paved runoffs there because cars were getting stuck in gravel. Though the profile of the corners makes it virtually impossible to gain time that way.

Random thought: is DJ Willy P this decade's Paul Tracy?

I guess, technically. He's the closest guy in the category of "why didn't he win that race?" through "how the hell did that happen?".

There is still plenty of gravel at RA. Indycar has been pulling cars out of the gravel and restarting them since the dismal turnouts in Champ Car forced them to allow working cars to continue.  If it's just a stuck car all it does now is prolong the yellow.

I don't think Indycar/CART/ChampCar/OWRS/BPCWSPBF has raced there since the 'upgrades'?

No. T5, Canada Corner and a couple of others have tarmac on the outside, which is definitely new since Nascar started going there in 2010. Turn 1 was also paved at some point between 2012 and now, it used to be grass.

True, but my point is the runoffs are there, even if they aren't as overboard as the Tilkedromes.
