This October didn't start quite well. Andrea de Cesaris, an inescapable F1 figure, died last night in a motorbike crash in Rome.
Ciao Andrea.

Horrible F1 driver, but very sad to hear he died in motorbike accident.
I don't think that's a particularly fair assessment - he was certainly erratic but he calmed down toward the end of his career. In fact, had the Jordan not broken down at Spa in '91 he could well have won it!
Rest in peace Andrea.

Must be fresh news, if you google his name nothing about death appears. What a f*** day today. RIP

Horrible F1 driver, but very sad to hear he died in motorbike accident.
I wouldn't say horrible.
At the better parts of his career he had some really good races. It was speculated at the time that he might even have won the 1991 Belgian GP if his car had remained healthy.
It wasn't to be.
Rest In Peace, Andrea.

Oh what dreadful news. One of those weird and wonderful racers who made F1 in the 1980s so compelling. And in the 90s, a genuine wise head. There's hope for Pastor yet.
RIP signor De Cesaris

Forget Hunt's well-known words about De Cesaris. Hunt was irreverent.
RIP Andrea.

He could/should have won early in his career to he got a pole in the Alfa at long beach and would have won monaco had he not run out of fuel in 1982 and he really should have won Spa in 83.

Ough, sad news
Posted 05 October 2014 - 18:56
Never heard of him before today and am too young to have seen him in F1 as I only started watching as a kid around 1994, but RIP to the guy, only in his 50s from what I see. A horrible day for the F1 community.

He did several races in 1994, so you just missed him. He was an important part of Jordan's history and had a long career with McLaren, Alfa Romeo, Ligier, Brabham, Tyrrell, Jordan, Minardi, Rial and Sauber.

As a school boy, working as a gopher with Marlboro Team Tiga, has given me so many great memories. Andrea was a great part of it.
Be it watching him get stressed reading the pit board as he drove past at Brands Hatch, or him adjusting his own rear wing when the mechanics were at lunch at Thruxton. He gave everything to try to get that place up the grid, just the kind of driver you could aspire to be.
He will be missed.
Ciao Andrea

Motor bikes....
A colorful mechanic at Indy in the years from '35 to '60 who I I knew called them: "Widow makers too often, Angel makers on occasion"
I never had anything with Andrea, and now he is gone it isn't the time to explain anymore.
But he is definitely one who didn't deserves something like this.
Rest in peace Andrea.

Been a pretty bad day for motorsport. Though in his early career he probably deserved the "de Crasheris" tag, he did go on to be a very underrated and reliable driver, probably deserved more from his career than what he got.
Ciao Andrea

RIP Andrea. You were the guy who I liked the most in F1 when I first started watching in 81. Yes you were erratic but boy you were fast when you had a good car.
I can't believe I am talking about you in the past tense.
What an absolute bitch of a day
