Been watching it for quite a while on the internet enabled Freeview HD. I really missed it a few years ago when I gave the Murdoch dish the old heave ho.

Hopefully they'll be able to expand the range of adverts a bit but as it's going to be on proper freeview I should be able to record the races I want to watch and skip the endless dancing cactus adverts!

Its only on Freeview HD though, not on older standard Freeview boxes.

Not actually broadcasting in HD.

Yes, but got an older TV that doesn't have a built-in Freeview HD box.

Although given they are less than £30 on Amazon it looks like I'll be investing for this weekend - Nationwide, Bathurst & Fuji, count me in.

Given that they broadcast via an internet stream on Freeview televisions at the moment, I don't see why they can't have live streaming via their website. It is pretty easy to geo-block a site to comply with licensing regulations (all of the iPlayer, ITVplayer et al. sites are geo-blocked to the UK only) and would open up the viewing to an even bigger market.

Could even add an on-demand feature...

The channel is no better than itv4 on a good weekend what they show live is very limited.

It should be bizarre for someone who watches as much motorsport as I do to even ask, but has Motors ever been worth watching? For whatever reason, the picture quality on their channel has always been sub-standard. I've only ever tuned in to watch the LM24, which is now of course on Eurosport. Does it perhaps have a large roster of endurance series?

TBH I am a bit fed up with ITV4 at the moment - yes they show the BTCC live, but qualifying is not shown properly, nor are a lot of the support races - unless you count the brief summaries on the highlights shows which appear at random times on late night TV, while event the BTCC races themselves are never properly reshown on ITV4 or the ITVplayer, just a highlights package a full week later.

There is a lot of endurance racing on Motors which is my favourite type of motorsport. The Blancpain series is shown live as is the USC series. V8 Supercars coverage is great as well. The quality of the club series coverage is variable but that's down to the teams making the footage rather than Motors themselves.

they devote a whole day to showing the full raceday schedule live. They also have a 1 hour highlights program of the BTCC, and a separate highlights program of the support races. What more do you want?

I'm always amazed at some of the moaning I read on this wesbite because tv channels don't show every bit of motor racing live as it happens, 24 hours a day.

They showed a lot of second tier series live (Nascar Nationwide, Indy Lights etc) in the past, but not as extensively now.

I used to watch Motors all the time (didn't they show Indy / CART years ago?) but haven't watched it in yonks. I do remember the picture quality was 'variable'..

BT Sport for all their sins give me V8 Supercars in glorious HD as well as the bikes.

Simply they could put the event or even just the races on the ITVplayer. It is a pain when you have been at another race that weekend and then have to avoid the results for an entire week until the highlights are shown a week later.

People manage to put the races on youtube pretty quickly until itv take them down. Most other channels put their races onto their player, but ITV won't.

It would be a quick job that would generate them ad revenue, so I don't think overly demanding...

Would hazard a guess this is down to whatever licencing agreement they have not allowing them to put it onto their (re)player. If that guess is correct, hopefully it's something they're already looking to get resolved whenever they renew the licence (assuming they do), if not before.

You could always record the BTCC live coverage! I always do and can then skip the adverts and any verbiage overdose if necessary.
Our Panasonic PVR even has a button that skips over the advert breaks - 'which is nice!'

I always record it and play it back when I'm away racing. Freeview boxes that record are available for under £70 new and £25-50 refurbished or second hand.

If it is to be on channel 71 then I can see a lot of parents complaining to the papers, their MP and anyone else who will listen, as that is currently the CBeebies channel, and I am not sure how enthralled the little ones will be when they are dumped in front of motorsport to keep them occupied.
Maybe it is Bernie's master plan to appeal to a (much) younger audience.

Cbeebies and the other kids channels moved a couple of weeks ago to the 120+ range. A rescan is required if anyone still has CBeebies on 71.

Oh I didn't realise that it was only the on freeview HD. I only have that on my TV not on any of the recording devices. May require some nifty work to record things on Motors TV then.

it appears to be on channel 240 here, and its kind of odd. Initially it comes up with a blank screen saying data channel, then after a few seconds connecting, then a few more bursts into life. Odd, feels like a red button type thing

The version on channel 240 is a connected TV channel, one which you can only receive if you have a free view HD TV connected to the internet - as it's a streamed TV channel.

The version on 71 which goes live at 11am today will be a bog standard received over the aerial available on any TV channel.

Seems like I'm the lucky one here. Here in Denmark, Motors TV through cable signal costs me 10 DKK a month, i.e. less than 1,5$ per month.

So I don't have to rely on a volatile Internet streaming signal, but have the opportunity to record my favourite mortor seris. Yes, I have plenty of HDD's filled with years of good motor racing, hoping my cable provider doesn't chance politics :-)

it dropped and after a quick rescan channel 71 appeared

Only problem is that channel 71 is on low power output compared to most mainstream channels (16,000w against 200,000w) so unless you're in a strong signal area of a transmitter that carries COM7 you're not going to be able to get it.

I hope they carry on with channel 240 as well otherwise I'm going to lose it entirely....

I've just tried Motors TV. I have a BT TV box and it's always appeared as channel 240 but has never worked. Just tried it now, and it still doesn't work, has the same old "tv channel not available for you" message it has always had

The 240 version only works if the box is connected to the internet. The new channel 71 version comes in via the aerial rather than the internet.

my box is connected to the internet. It's a BT Vision box and needs the internet to do a lot of its functions, not sure why this doesn't work, the blurb in the article mentions BT TV.

I'm off on holidays tomorrow, when I come back I'll try again, might need a box reset

Your BT Vision box might not work with streamed channels? Or certainly the 200 series ones on Freeview (HD).

It's a few years old and is not Freeview HD compatible, but I would imagine the feature is available on more modern examples.

Can confirm it appears to be a low power signal as it breaks up so much, it is unwatchable.

Motors tv do a few things really well. The first is they have perfecred their commentary line ups for big events to the crappest group you've ever heard. Secondly their picture quality rivals the 1986 world cup footage, an amazing achievement given modern technology.

Turns out it is broadcast on "com 7", so not "available to all regular free-to-air" viewers as they promote, but only those in areas with specific coverage, some 70% tops of the country.

So for the second time they promote a launch on Freeview that lots of people cannot get.

So just wasted £50 on a Freeview HD box and no Nationwide or Bathurst for me this weekend...

Not sure if they have turned the broadcast signal power up as unlike Friday when I first tried it where the picture break up was very bad, the signal has been much better yesterday and this morning - I assume our signal comes from Winter Hill transmitter and we are on the very edge of the indicated coverage area.

Has it got a connection to allow you to connect to a router for the internet? You can get it on channel 240 if so.
