Yes, this will be interesting.  It's a bit like a first kiss, all the expectation, will it turn out as well as you hope it will?

Most of the lap seems to warm up the left hand tyres and then that long 180 that warms up the right. I have no idea if that will cause issues or not.

Andy

Seems to be an engine track. I hope Merc can preserve their engines for Abu Double.

Any numbers on audience this weekend? Is it remotely sold out?

Half the field will run wide at the start at the 2nd corner  :well:

2nd corner situation ridiculous. Hamilton more or less fastest all sectors (2 hundredths off in the middle) but didn't put them together.

Nice to see Button get on it so early on. His time has now been eclipsed by Mercedes, but with the new track it kinda debunks the 'old driver can't adapt' myths... :)

Bottas' tyre blankets cooked his tyres? Strange one...

Annoying way to miss out on plenty of running

They are learning the limits and the track is green, it will be fine by FP3

Circuit looks like ****. It's disgusting.

Meanwhile Romain's complaints are getting hilarious. "No pouer, no pouer, yeah, come on". Somebody told him they'll have Mercedes engines next year, right?

Mercs look streets ahead again.   Well whoever wins this season, we can genuinely say "it's the car!"  We can also say that the RBR is either heavy on fuel or dragging it.

Since it's a new track I'm watching FP1 on the BBC. At the moment I don't much care for the circuit, but I'll reserve judgement until after the race itself.

The Russian-flag run-off is certainly not getting any points for subtlety. :p

That's nothing new. In recent times years where we have more than one car at the front end of the grid are rarer than the years in which we don't.

Williams looked very good

Bottas 2nd after the 1st stints, and Massa in his normal position in FP1 but closer to the front of the grid by time compared to normal

Looking like a one stopper.

Not only is the circuit bloody disgusting, the race could turn into a bore-fest strategically with zero tyre degradation.

Woohoo...

Never heard that one before.

But what the hell is it with those of camber corners?

Nothing learned from Abu Crappi?

At least we have long straights where DRS will work so we probably will see some overtaking...

I do love a good old 3 day dry weekend where the track just gets better and better. Help from GP2+3 as well. All of the grip!

Never heard that one before.

I remember stories of it happening in the early days of tyre warmers when it was still experimental obviously not an everyday occurrence nowadays!  At least it wasn't during the race!

How come the Russians are allowed the run off to be painted with their flag yet in Austin they were told they couldn't paint the US flag?

Texas...

It happens in a lot of places, sure. I have no problem with that, I just find it amusing. Singapore and Bahrain have some great painted run-offs as well. :)

Both JB and KMag had to change them last race. Maybe they were a bit slow... they did it in an amazing 3.1s with that 2012 stop with LH.

That will be the drivers fault, not the circuit.

Track is rather uninspiring though.

Well drivers ALWAYS try to enter the corner as fast as possible. And then you place no gravel or grass on the outside of the corner and expect people to stay withing the track limits? Nice try.

Enforce the rules and they will stay within the limits. Blame the sports administrators, not the track.
