I just stumbled on this by chance today - a 90 minute documentary about the Dunlop family which was aired in Ireland recently and available to view on the BBC I-Player until Monday night only (not Sunday as the post says!).

(Just type "Road" into the I-Player search box).

It starts off as typical sensationalist pap, but progresses into a serious piece with a lot of footage never seen before. It's a remarkable story, about remarkable people, that needed to be told I think. I couldn't help shedding a tear or two, but I'm so glad I watched it.

R.I.P. Joey and Robert - and may fate be kinder to Micheal and William.

Just watched it myself. I was in Ireland at the time of Roberts accident and had visited the Crossakiel circuit at Kells that evening to get the experience of what an Irish road circuit was like and found out about the accident when we got back to our B&B near Mullingar.  The other rider involved that night, Darren Burns, was reported as having sustained a broken leg & concussion, but unfortunately his injuries were much more severe though he did make a comeback.

A truly wonderfully put together story of the Dunlops.

A must watch for any real road racing fan.

One of the very best road racing films I have ever seen this.

I was never a huge fan of Joey or Robert, but to see they way they approached their racing from this angle is great.

For me this puts the Guy Martin film into perspective. That guy does racing as a hobby coz he likes to be scared and going fast.

These guys liked to win, and there is a very, very big difference.

And for me that makes this a better film. Though Neeson was perfect as the voiceover man. and the insight into the way Michael and William dealt with the death of their Dad was touching, inspiring and also rather upsetting to a degree!

A great documentary. Very sad, but thoughtfully made.

It's available on DVD, saw it in W H Smiths.

Agree 100%.

A great, if at times difficult watch. I'll never forget that week in 2008, we were at Mathers that night and it was obvious something tragic had happened. There wasn't a dry eye for miles when MD won it on Saturday.

What a story. In many ways.
