Interesting comment from Graham Lowden in this weeks MS.

The reason they took the stop-go under the safety car was a regulations are a bit unclear.

"Article 16.4 was not quite clear - It says you must serve your penalty at your pit stop, but you are not allowed to take it under the safety car. You can also be excluded if you do not serve it at your stop"

Looks like another bit of loose F1 drafting.

Who do they get to write this stuff?  Some work experience intern?  A child of 5 can see that rule makes no sense.

As it was not touring weather I skipped a lunch stop and used the phone (hands-free) to catch up on some of the news that never made it into the paddock, while dodging puddles in the spray. Watch out for changes at Marussia and more at Caterham. Keep an eye too on F1 and Russia as sponsors are beginning to grumble that going to have tea with Vladimir Putin would not be the smartest thing for F1 to do. Maybe the celebrated Strategy Group will finally do something sensible and involve itself in real strategic thinking, rather than doing daft things that don’t help anyone.

Just wondering if anyone else might know the changes at Marussia?

Also, how amazing is the car looking this year?! catching up with sauber!

Well that answered my question just earlier today! Talk about timing! Unless Joe Saward means something else.

Interesting, Let's see how this pans out at Spa for Ferrari too.

Well thought out for a small team.

Example of how the small teams can be innovative as well. The high nose was created by Tyrrell after they had fallen on lean times, there are surely other examples.

While I would hardly call wrapping the exhaust innovative, I am pleased to see Marussia continually trying to improve their performance.

Which quite frankly wasn't supposed to be a team, but just a engine manufacturer. Not that it would've made it any better. Just doing my dose of nitpicking :)

Good qualifying position in Hungary and rain predicted for Sunday. More points coming their way?

Too bad Sauber is going tô challenge for points as well with Sutil up there as well.

Good luck Marussia!

If marussia hadn't scored a point so far this season do we think they'd have carried on, I know teams are struggling but with the lure of 9th place in the championship and the cash associated with it waiting for them, is this what is driving them to continue? Would or could they have closed the doors on the team? If it was Caterham with the alleged shortage of parts would they have carried on? And if they were using old parts and this had occurred would a lot more questions be asked?

Teams carry on till the cash runs out. It's what businesses do.

Apparently Marussia are also in danger of missing the US GP....

http://www.grandprix...s/ns29230.html?

Michael Schmidt, the highly respected correspondent for Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, claims the team has been living "hand to mouth" since August's Belgian grand prix, where Max Chilton almost sat out the race due to "contractual issues".

"We have now learned that another cash injection is required so that the team can make the trip to Austin and Sao Paulo," Schmidt said.

"This is happening while the owner Andrey Cheglakov wants to sell."

Things must be desperate since it's worth making the last 3 races just to get the $50 millions payout for next year. The problem is that that money is future revenue. Doesn't Chilton bring in funding or has he been racing on tick. Just goes to show that there is no sustainable business plan for F1.

Let's hope so. Of all the new teams Manor were the ones most geared to lower budgets. Ok the CFD only concept was a massive error but they continued to keep their costs low. We're it not for the outrageous engine bill they would not be in purdah. Let's hope the prize fund redistribution includes them. Ture racers that have moved up from junior formulae.

Fingers crossed!  Hopefully it won't end up like Super Aguri's situation in 2008...

Still sounds like it's more hope than anything else. All of the teams that are struggling seem to have the idea that someone is going to put some money in. The problem is they need solid and continued investment. If they do arrive at Abu Dhabi it will be a good sign, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think Marussia's problem is paying for the Ferrari power train. They don't have any alternative at present.

If Marussia do race at Abu Dhabi what's the chance that Marciello will fill Bianchis seat?
