Let's play "what do we know" for a second.

We know that Alonso isn't going to be Merc powered next year.

We know that he keeps talking about looking out for Ferrari.

We know that he has said that no one has guessed the correct answer.

We know that Ron Dennis claims to "value loyalty above all else" which makes a move to McLaren look less likely. They also have two really good drivers, one of whom is young, and one of whom has a longstanding good relationship with Honda, with several very promising young drivers in the pipeline.

We know that Lotus is switching to Merc power, we know that Red Bull has signed their drivers, and we know that none of the backmarkers (Sauber, Caterham, Marussia) could afford him, since they are barely keeping afloat.

Therefore, we know that he won't be at the following teams: Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari, Toro Rosso, Williams, Force India, Lotus. It is highly unlikely to the point of near certainty that he won't be at Sauber, Marussia, or Caterham. A McLaren deal looks less and less likely by the day.

Where does that leave Alonso? Nowhere on the current grid.

However...

We know that Haas has money to spend, and they are looking at Ferrari power units. We know that they will need an experienced driver to help develop their car. Alonso going to Haas would be good for Ferrari, since Alonso keeps saying that he is looking out for Ferrari. The timing for the announcement is right, since the logical place for such an announcement would be at the US GP in Austin. This would explain the caginess for the last few weeks. It would also provide Alonso with a fresh challenge. I personally consider this more likely than his purchase of a backmarker team to form Alonso Racing.

Thoughts?

There's a thread for where Alonso goes in 2015, no need for another
