Fellow Autosport forumers, it's time for you to be subjective!

The question is simple - who's your favorite and least favorite driver on the current grid? Not the best, fastest, smartest, coolest, sexiest, tallest - but simply your best / least liked driver.

As there is an excruciating 3-week break till Austin, here's something to kill some time with. This year had no shortage of surprises (Mercedes intra-team battle, Ricciardo and Alonso handily beating their teammates, impressive performances from rookies) it will be interesting to see who will come out on top.

For reference, here is the 2012 poll, which Kimi won over Lewis:

http://forums.autosp...avorite-driver/

Please be respectful towards each other and do not turn it into an X vs Y thread, as there are dedicated threads to do that. Also, consider the driver, not their respective fanbase.

The Caterham drivers are not in the list since everybody with a soul likes Kobayashi and frankly no one cares about Ericsson or Lotterer.

Difficult to choose.

While Hamilton is flawed in many respects he probably qualifies as my favourite driver. I rate him highly in terms of driver ability which makes me root for him. Daniel Ricciardo and Jenson Button are the two most likeable drivers in my opinion.

I don't dislike any driver on the grid but I chose Maldonado. His comments about the Williams team sabotaging him last year were ridiculous.

But the driver I picked is my favourite for some of those reasons. Especially "coolest". I am a sucker for a handsome guy wearing slick shades

I really do not have a least favourite. I voted Sutil because I am so indifferent to him. But I do not dislike him

I voted Rosberg because he is keeping the championship entertaining and not giving up the fight on the WDC.

as my least favorite driver i picked Maldonado (Sutil was close) because he doesn't give anything good to the championship, the only time you get to talk about him is because of his accidents, he is taking valuable space holding a lot of talents just because he got cash, you can barely resonate with his fans which only defense is, "uhhh maldonado won a race" he is talentless and i hope we don't see him in 2016.

My least favourite would have to be Gutiérrez. Almost every driver has some sort of interesting angle, be it positive or negative, but I can't think of one here. I'm sure he's a nice guy, and least favourite ought not to be confused with disliked, or something as ridiculous as 'hate'.

As for favourite driver; I just don't know. None inspire any sort of lasting excitement. Their driving does from time to time, but that changes with each race. I ended up voting Alonso because he's been doing a good job for The Team.

On track only, I voted Hamilton and Maldonaldo. Hamilton very rarely gives up, and is not content unless he is winning, and he can put some blistering performances in when the car is on his side. Maldo, ought to be obvious. He will never take responsibility for his terrible actions and choices. As a person, Hamilton would probably be my least favourite person, but that's not what the pollster asked.

Favourite this year is Bottas, getting good podiums and does the job well, in typical Finn fashion as well.

Least favourite would probably be Vettel.

Fav: Alonso, followed closely by Hamilton & then Ricciardo.

Least Fav: Sutil. The guy continues to waste a seat.

I don't get anyone voting HAM, ALO, KIMI or VET as Least Fav though. That's just bizarre.

- Raikkonen (was a hard choice, I don't really dislike anyone, but if I had to pick someone...)

Edit: Oh wait, I actually dislike Sutil, I dislike him so much that I rejected him from my memory  :p

Favourite: Still Raikkonen, good to see he's still motivated despite his difficulties.

Least favourite: Still Vettel, though he's not the arrogant pr*ck he was in recent years. Perhaps this poor season is helping him to grow up.

I don't really have a favourite these days.  I like Alonso and Ricciardo to do well but I wouldn't say I was a fan of either driver.

as for disliking, I have a few I'm not too keen on, I don't hate them:  Gutierrez (I believe he's not up the the task), Sutil (no particular reason), Hamilton (simply because a large chunk of his fanbase are well.. I'll say no more on that one) and Raikkonen (his 'don't give a damn' attitude irks me somewhat)

I was going to add Maldonado to the list but for the sheer entertainment value he brings, he's worth keeping :rotfl:

Hamilton has driven brilliantly - albeit with the best car (Bottas was a close second)

Maldonado - well...enough said

Raikkonen is my favourite, because he seems to be one of the more 'normal' drivers on the grid and the one I can relate to the most.

Alonso is my least favourite, I really respect him as a driver, he destroyed my favourite driver this season and I accept that, but outside the car I really dislike his arrogance and he seems to be a pretty shady character all together.

So, Kvyat, Vergne and Bianchi would appear to be the only drivers that nobody either loves or hates. I am quite surprised, as for me Bianchi and Vergne are my favorites behind Alonso. I guess that of these Bianchi was the one who would almost certainly be WDC, but sadly not now, Vergne is unfortunately a victim of Helmut, and the Kvyat to Red Bull situation can be explained by the Bernie and Putin love story shown in Sochi.

OMG, I just realised that there probably exists an amateur porn video featuring Bernie Ecclestone, Vladimir Putin, and Christian Horner!! (probably including a Spice Girl, Helmut Marco and Flavio Briatore in a thong :) ).

Now isn't that an image that you never thought you would need to digest :)

The thing about this pole is it doesn't allow for people having more than 1 favorite driver.   Really sidelines the brilliant minority :p

Clear least favourite Maldanado

Just for the record, I enabled only one one vote because the 2012 poll had the same setting, plus I think this way people take more things into consideration.

Omiting the Caterham drivers was due to the max 20 choice poll limit, the OP explanation is only a joke   ;)

And remember, this poll is entirely subjective, you don't have to rationalise / explain your vote. Vote for who you support or feels closest to your heart, no matter if he's a backmarker or a champ.

Favorite: Well as a Finn, my favorite driver since 2002 has been Kimi Räikkönen....but its not just that, I like Kimi's "no bullshit" personality as well and even though there has been other Finns, Kovalainen and Bottas, Kimi has always been my favorite Finn since Häkkinen quit. I mean for sure I wish all the best for Bottas, but imho he is much more boring with his media interviews, than Kimi's often quite blunt replies that put smile on my face :D

Least favorite: Alonso (are you surprised?) Again as someone else said before me, I value and respect him as driver, but as person....definitely the one I've disliked the most, even more than I ever did Schumacher, who I think was really arrogant at times and I've seen that same utter arrogance from Alonso over the years..not so much on track as with Schumi, but behind the scenes and in front of media. In so many ways Alonso is the exact polar opposite of Kimi, yeah, it has been quite clear for so many years who my favorite and least favorite drivers have been. But when Alonso has retired, its going to much harder to answer the question about the least favorite driver, as Alonso is the only one who I clearly dislike. Hamilton showed same kind of arrogance in the past, but I think he has grown up over recent years....Vettel I used to like much before, but I think its been the opposite for him, he has become more arrogant... I still dont dislike him, but not exactly liking either.

I'll wait till the voting is over to see a larger sample. So far though, interesting to see KR losing a lot of ground, i.e., going down in the liked and up in the disliked categories respectively. Resentful Ferrari fans? Disappointed Kimi fans? Jumping on the Alonso beating Kimi bandwagon?

Kimi / Fred

Once upon a time I even kinda sympathized with Fred. That was about 10 years ago... Do rate him as the best driver though!

I probably "need" a new driver as Kimi's not going to last long tbh. From the new bunch I probably sympathise the most with Grosjean but doubt he's going to become a settled frontrunner.

Most favorite:  Hamilton (pure and fair racer, at least by 2014 standard of what constitutes fair racing)

Least favorite:  Rosberg (too slick, he's probably the top driver most likely to crash into his championship contender at the final race).

Normally Alonso would be my least favorite driver, since he appears to be a genuinely disruptive Machiavellian type character, but like the other 19 drivers this season, he slipped into the background.

Though I voted in the poll, I should stress that I don't really dislike any of them as they all bring something different and enjoyable to the table.

If pressed, I'd say I root for Vettel most, and I'm most indifferent about Alonso. Fantastic driver, but someone summed it up best when they said he's 'shady'. Maybe it's just the magician thing. :p

i don't remember any driver killing my puppy or pissing in my soup ... so i don't really hate none of them, at all.

besides, being subjective while discussing fav/hated drivers is a bit of an oxymoron.

they are the best 22 drivers in the world (including maldonado, achieve 10% of what he's done in his life before  criticizing him), that's the fact. my love or hate matters zilch.

now that i've gotten rid of the zen BS out of the way, my fav driver is kimi. i hate none. and i support Nico for this year's title just as i did lewis back in 08

Right now I'm sure I'm not alone in massively cheering on Jules Bianchi. But I chose Bottas, I've been really impressed by him throughout the past 2 seasons and he's rapidly becoming the "next" big breakthrough star imo.  McLaren could do worse than picking him up if they truly intend to build for a future.

As for worst, Massa.  Tired of his hysterical whinefests every time something either on or off the track doesn't go his way, still can't drive in the wet, he's being shown up by his team mate once again and has truly taken on & surpassed Barrichello in being someone I just have to hit the mute button for.

Interesting but not surprising how many of the most liked drivers are also the most hated/disliked drivers.  I guess when you are towards the top you generate a lot of passion from the fans both good and bad.

Maldonado is in his own category though.   :rotfl:  He constantly crashes and always finds something or someone else to blame.  We've even seen him purposely crash into Perez for supposedly blocking him earlier in PRACTICE.  He left the Williams team about as ungracefully as I've ever seen a driver leave a team, suddenly saying the team was conspiring against him.  He's not even fast anymore either.  He at least used to show flashes of great pace between all the crashes.  Now he just crashes.  Then on top of all that his big money is getting him into seats that other drivers are probably more deserving of.  It backfired on him this year though, with the Williams and Lotus team basically switching places in terms of competitiveness.

I don't dislike anyone in particular, though i'm having the most problem understanding Fred and Lewis. But people have different values, and who am I to say mine is the most correct.

Somebody "dislikes" Ricciardo?

Seb, is that you?

One person voted for him as their 'least favourite' driver. That some people are making this harmless poll into a display of their personal dislikes or even hate is on them, but nobody who replied mentioned Ricciardo in such a light.

Ricciardo recently commented on his relation with Vettel by saying: 'We are at a point where I have won three races, he hasn’t won any but he still acts the same around me. We still talk about the car and other things, you know, tells me how his baby girl is going and all the rest of it. I think for a racing relationship, team-mate scenario it is as good as can be.'
