Pole n qualifying on the clean side of the grid is crucial here.

Oh I just realised its not for another week... I thought things were a bit quiet for a race week (I've just got back from holiday). Oh well that's my Sunday afternoon freed up then!

Will A.Rossi gets a race this time around? home track to boot which might be a little help on that front.

I think I saw something a few days ago saying that Marussia were trying to bring both cars, so maybe.

Any attendance woes the USGP may or may not suffer shouldn't be attributable to the Mexican GP taking fans away from it. The rumors of huge numbers of Mexican fans attending the two GPs so far have been immensely exaggerated.

Not trying to be negative but the last stretch of the season is always harder to enjoy when it's track after track of the same sorts of layouts, the tracks are new but that's not necessarily a good thing.  Always love the stretch between Barcelona and Monza.  The tail of the season is a bit.. :well:

Still a chance for good races if the right circumstances present themselves but the venues are a bit uninspired.

We will see next year, I guess.

So far it's fair to say Austin has not been able to replicate Montreal's success...

So far it's fair to say Austin has not been able to replicate Montreal's success...

Can you define success in this case ?

cos the figures didn't seem bad last year

Below is  COTA report from last year and 2012 figures

Circuit of the Americas has, for the second year running, produced a three-day weekend crowd of north of 250,000 spectators for the United States Grand Prix.

Official attendance numbers from the track were released today, with a mark of 113,162 fans in attendance on Sunday to bring the weekend total to 250,324. Friday featured 58,276 fans and Saturday had 78,886 on site.

It’s a slight reduction from last year’s numbers, which were 265,499 overall and 117,429 on Sunday. Some aerial shots showed a handful of grandstands – the one leading onto the backstraight one of them – not filled up.

But what likely occurred was a rise in single-day general admission tickets, which were available this year for the first time. Last year, all attendees needed to buy a three-day weekend pass and this year, single-day tickets could be purchased.

The second year is a crucial year for a racing event, and to see the numbers on par with the inaugural year is a very positive sign for the future of the USGP at COTA.

The U.S. fans now have had their chance to see Sebastian Vettel win in person, as he did Sunday with yet another crushing performance.

Not bad. But not Montreal numbers from what I've seen, and not what COTA has projected ... and that's if you believe their announced numbers. I do not.

Lots of empty grandstand seats last year, even after removing the T2 and T6 GSs that were available in 2012. Now they've removed the two T11W GSs as well after they sold very poorly last year.

hopefully the full 22 cars as i think FIA might demand Murussia to get a replacement driver in, also i think there might be a replacement in Caterham. do not forgot there has been enough time since the crash for the guys to recover from it and get back to work

Yes, especially if Caterham go under, I fully expect Marussia to be forced to field two cars by FOM to ensure a healthy grid for the race, especially as its one of their biggest of the year.

Whats the purpose of having a 3rd driver when you are not going to use him in a time like this. Maybe Russia was too soon, but it's time to move on. Bianchi is still in hospital and hopefully he will recover, but you have to look at the near future and that's the last 3 races of the season.

Why?

2 other drivers as opposed to the regular caterham guys to drop out of Q1 and if Marussia field 1 car make that 3 other drivers than the one's we are used to

would make Q1 dramatic don't you think

Doubt they'll change it. It will probably be three cars going out in Q1 and then the regular six in Q2.

They got the college football crowd that had attended the big game on Saturday.  I heard the tickets were sold very cheaply to encourage their attendance (and it worked).

Not so much. Attendance went down, not up. They didn't come close to selling out or filling up the place.

They changed it in middle of the season in 2008 when Super Aguri folded. So if Caterham doesn't enter top 15 should qualify for Q2.

I also thought the race was this week hah, tbh I just want the season over and done with now, for all I care they could hand Lewis the title and skip the next races, I've had enough Merc domination to last me.  roll on 2015 and possibly a challenger for them.

They kept the number going through to Q2 the same in Russia, even though there was 1 car missing. I expect they will do the same if cars are missing here. The fixed number is not the cars that are knocked out but the number that go through to the next session.

If Hamilton scores 33 more points than Rosberg at the next 2 races, he wins the championship before stepping foot in Abu Dhabi. Realistically he needs Rosberg to DNF in one race where he wins and Rosberg to come third or worse while he wins in the other race. It's a tall order with those 50 points at the end of the season. He'd only have to outscore Rosberg by 8 points over the next 2 races under the usual system.

I have a funny feeling that Hamilton is going to be denied a championship at the end of the year due to those double points.

The most important thing for Hamilton is to finish well in Abu Dhabi. If he can come in second to Rosberg it's still only a net loss of 14.

I miss Varsha too-  listening to an old replay of the Senna/Prost accident at Suzuka, and nice to hear familiar voices of Bob and Hobbsie...

Gonna get there Thursday PM for the pit walk, then park at turn 19 for the weekend... can't wait!  Haven't been to a live F1 race since the first one at Indy in 2000.
