For those who just cannot get enough Street races (other than those already on the calender) , and want more F1 races hosted in Spain ...

Plans are afoot for a F1 street race in the heart of Madrid, Spain's El Confidencial reports.

El Confidencial claims the project is so well advanced that Ecclestone, the F1 chief executive, is already in possession of a detailed business plan and bank guarantees.

The report said the race would have an annual budget of EUR 50 million, funded privately, but "institutional, political and social support" is also necessary.

bare in mind that the contract for Catalunya expires at the end of 2016 and this ...

Azerbaijan is then joining the schedule in 2016, and there are reports Ecclestone is in talks for a race along the famous Las Vegas 'Strip'.

Ecclestone told Forbes' Christian Sylt last week that it's "more likely it (the calendar) will go over 20 (races) with Baku than we lose a race".

An F1 race on the streets of a major capital city? No chance.

Even if the idea did have legs, I wouldn't want it to materialise. The only street circuit I really like is Marina Bay, Singapore.

Surely the teams must have a say in this? What's the point of teams spending £20 million a year on aero just to have their cars driving in a cavalcade around a stretch of roads designed for lorries, buses and trams?

'The report said the race would have an annual budget of EUR 50 million, funded privately, but "institutional, political and social support" is also necessary.'

Necessary for what? To financially sustain the idea beyond its first year, to give permission to hold an F1 race in the middle of a city?

This is probably going on the 'not very likely to ever happen'-stack. But then again, I would have said that about Azerbaijan.

Expect a BCN contract extension soon with an increased sanctioning fee.

Because Valencia was such a success..

and what's with this random places "getting a GP" of late? Is Bernie just thumbing through an atlas and randomly stopping on pages?

Is F1 trying to become some European version of Indycars? Just not as good.

Must be the worlds most boring circuit? I quite like this Madrid idea-all sports event or anything intending to attract a crowd should be held in the centre of cities-hate to see countryside polluted with autodromes.

A stable calendar means circuit owners aren't in fear of losing their slot every year and we can't have that now can we? Continuity is bad for Bernie's business model.

Azerbaijan's a oil-rich dictatorship. Spain's a broke democracy. Big difference in Bernie's game.

After watching the FR 3.5 races this weekend I'm sure it's a candidate for that title. Maybe only that Moscow circuit - also known from FR 3.5 - tops that.

Talk of a Las Vegas street circuit, and now this. Is Formula One going the Formula E route? :(

I don't know what it is with the Spanish F1 tracks but with the exception of Montjuic, Spain hasn't been blessed with interesting F1 tracks.

25% of the Spanish workforce is unemployed.  So let's spend 50m euros on a vanity project for the elite.

Spain is living difficult times, lots of corruption cases appear constantly so I imagine there are some business oportunities for some people (private and public) in an event like this. Probably not for the people of the city. Valencia government is in bankrupt, the precedent is not very appealing so I can't really give too credibility to this...

And build us a cottage garden where we can eat that cake.
