As I write this the final day of 2014 Motorclassica is beginning. Set in Melbourne's historic Exhibition Building - it is an ideal venue for this style event.

There's a number of themes for this year's running - 100 years of Maserati, 50 years of Ford's Mustang & Donald Campbell's Bluebird speed record on Lake Eyre in South Australia. There's also quite an area devoted to Australian specials of race and road going kind. So a broad section of appeal to many motoring enthusiasts tastes. Plus, as part of the Campbell celebration, Gina Campbell is guest.

As I discovered late last night in a chance conversation (as we were being ushered out by security) with Chris, one of the organiser's of the event, lengthy discussions took place to try to get CN7 back on Australian soil for this anniversary event. Ultimately the expense to get it to Melbourne skuttled that. So a large part of the display involved Campbell memorabilia from Gina Campbell's archive and those of several enthusiasts.

When I checked my emails this morning Matthew Magilton had forwarded me (and many others) a selection of his photos from the event. Many different cars from those I took. So I've asked that he might be kind enough to add them on here too. In the meantime here's few more of my snaps.

There is many cars I'd happily put in my shed well before any expensive European. This is one Australian special that could easily be short listed. Pity about the budget though. The Bolwell's got the shape of the Nagari just right.

One day, I'd expect someone will probably return this Type 37 to its 'correct spec', But in the meantime it remains a typical old racing car that had the humble Holden grey engine placed between the chassis rails to continue its Australian racing life. The blue car behind is the JSR. Then follows TNFer, Shane Bowden's PRAD.

Part of the large 100 year Maserati gathering was Andrew Cannon's 150S - USA race history I believe. Andrew read DCN's tribute at Sir Jack's funeral.

What we have here is a small selection of Matthew Magilton's photos from Motorclassica. He did some judging, so had the crowd-free advantage.

This Aston was restored in South Australia and at one stage when I walked past, Vern Schuppan was nearby. I'm not sure if there was a connection.

Thanks for these Matthew.

It was interesting to chat with the owner of this rare to Australia, Lancia Stratos Stradale. The car had just been finished on the previous Saturday with many hours of research and hard graft going into the restoration of the former US-based car. He was fortunate to own a few 'Design Icons' as he referrred to his collection. Plus, keen that other enthusiasts get a chance to see them. He said there's possibly 3 Stradales in Australia, although one said to be in South Australia could be an urban myth. If anybody knows, or better still has seen it, please tell.
