While I can't say for sure, I'd certainly say he should be...

He was, as I recall, about two or three years younger than myself. He was also the nephew of Jack Godbehear.

I've always been curious to know what happened to Tony Stewart too. He looked very young in photos from around the time he won that wet Gold Star race at Symmons Plains in 1971. Was he the youngest Gold Star race winner up until that time?

As this topic has dropped off the front page, I thought I might ask again - Can anyone suggest how I might be able to contact Tony ?.

Thanks in advance.

Here are a couple of shots from Tony's Gold Star win at Symmons 1971. Great win for him in atrocious conditions. Bloody freezing too!1719-H-TStew-71_zps39a6c005.jpg1744-H-TStew-71_zpsf6f8802e.jpg

He looks like the original "baby faced assassin" - obviously had a lot of talent behind the wheel to win in those conditions.

Is that a rain shield on the induction side of the engine ?.

Yes he only looked about 16! He was quite a good steerer back in the day, did pretty well in the Birranna too. Not right at the top of the tree but generally very competitive. Only a small field and the big names had problems but he drove very well in dreadful conditions.

Rear start 1727-H-Grid-71-lo_zpse6754b2f.jpg1728a-H-Sta-71-lo_zps3012afc9.jpg1736-H-TStew-71-lo_zpsa3956609.jpgshot has Ross Ambrose on the far right of shot next to Tony Stewart. Garrie Cooper at rear. Quite a substantial rain box - pity I haven't got a really clear shot of that side of the car.

I believe the last time I spoke to or was with Tony was one night at Warwick Farm...

He was with Max Stewart and Jill Hindmarsh was making comments about his crass language and drawing a comparison between him and his raucous behavior and that of their (young) driver, Bill Fanning.

He was at that time driving one of Max Stewart's cars as I recall. The Rennmax/Mildren, perhaps?

I know nothing of him since he stopped racing. And in the pics, I'm not sure whether the person with the black-rimmed glasses is Paul England or Jack Godbehear.

Hi all, Tony Stewart is alive and well, and is the owner of Car City in Ringwood Melbourne.

On a trip to the USA, Tony saw the idea of combining many car yards together in the one place, and on returning home sought out the old apple orchard on Maroondah Hwy in Ringwood, and after a shaky start things took off to what you see today.

I have asked him a few times, about getting into perhaps the historic scene, but he just seems to be to busy. Cheers Ron. :)
