The SAP logo really pops out nicely. SAP will be happy with that.

Think they'll get close to last year's pole with the extra step in tyres.

Would be pretty cool if they did given that "these cars are too slow"

In the practise session, Sky F1 was just talking about the rumours of Stefano Domenicali and Audi, not to mention showing an Alonso interview with Fernando saying ''The fans will love it''.

Thanks. Didn't recognise the voice for some reason!

Pretty nondescript practice session so far. McLaren is looking alright at least.

Anyone know who this "HAM" is?
Top of the leaderboard but haven't seen any of his last 2 fastest laps.

Must be a system glitch with FOM. Forza Rosberg

Mark Webber was a very poor driver, so on a pure statistical comparison he allows Red Bull fans to pretend there was some jeopardy in their wins.

Oh no another repeat of the last 4 years if you substitute Mercedes for Redbull :)

RB were not at the top of every session 1-2 for 4 years.

There were actually other cars capable of beating RB and the sessions were not 1-2 Vettel / Webber ....

Redbull dominance was never like this.  Only one other team has won races this year.  Every other team hasn't gotten close.  And the wins Redbull had weren't down to pure pace.  Plenty of other teams won races on pace in the last 4 years, excluding the last 8 races last season.  But nothing was locked in or frozen during this time.  It's easy to pinpoint the engines this season, but in the last 4 years.. Redbull had an aero advantage.. but the aero rules weren't frozen.  The other teams just weren't as good.

Thank you.

I enjoyed seeing Lewis, or Alonso compete in McLaren or Ferrari and give Redbull a hard time and win races.  You have to have that outside challenge otherwise it's too easy.  I don't think Lewis or Nico would have had half the errors they have had this season, if they knew they couldn't relax and weren't just racing each other.

In the first 3 years Redbull would always struggle at Spa/Monza.  They had weaknesses that gave other cars a chance at certain tracks.  It was only the 4th season that they conquered Spa/Monza and had such good aero that they could dominate these tracks.  Merc are strong at pretty much every track.  It's admirable from the design of the car/engine point of view.

I don't even want to complain because in F1.. people get what they deserve.   I never liked the whinging about Redbull in the last 4 seasons.  The people that would threaten to stop watching F1 were pathetic crybabies (imo).  The only thing that bugs me is the engine freeze.  Other than that.. Merc are getting what they deserve.  That's how sport works.  You do a good job, you reap the rewards.

Funny that Lotus have gone down the drain since last season, must have been the Renault V8 advantage they had?

Something Mercedes/McLaren could never have that Renault engine.

Sessions matter sod all. And frankly, only roughly half have been Hamilton/ Rosberg if that is what worries you.

As for comparing 4 years of Red Bull dominance with 1 year of Mercedes..... .well fancy that, there were periods within that 4 years when other teams could challenge.... but you know, you are taking from a much larger sample! There were periods within those 4 years where absolutely nothing could touch the Red Bull, same as nothing can touch the Mercedes now. And for those whining about the engines, yes they were frozen last year and before too, and yes Mercedes advantage has grown as the season has gone on because (whisper it) they actually have a damn good chassis too.

It's annoying, but dominance isn't a new phenomenon in F1. I'm sure everybody is looking forward to closer competition next year but at least we do have a fight for the WDC.

I am amazed by the amount of resentment thrown Mercedes way for doing a much better job than the others. It is not their fault if the fat cats in other teams failed to deliver to the level or scale of Mercedes. It seems some folks are shameless solution is to ****** Mercedes, punishing success. This is terribly unfair and shamelessly shameful :)

And please do not compare Merc to RB, Merc didn't bend any rules of took advantage of loopholes, their success is due to share hard grind. They don't use team orders, they let their drivers race, what more do people want? If there is any vitriol, please direct it to the teams that underperformed.

I think to keep on complaining about success is against the core principles and ethos of modern society especially those base on capitalist principles. Mercedes should not be pressured into the position of defending doing a great or better job. Such mentality belongs in North Korea...

It was a pitch to make the promoter feel good and pay up, even with fewer cars on the grid. But I agree with the position that F1 don't need these weak teams.

Do we really want all cars and or drivers to be carbon copies of eachother? I like seeing a dominating team personally, it demonstrates superior technical prowess and more skilled engineers. Respect from me for Mercedes! Not to mention their car is so beautifull this year.

Here I thought I was the only one. Caterham/Marrusia etc do not interest me. Don't we have F2 and F3 for rookie teams.

In Caterhams case, yes. But I fee sorry for Marussia, because they have scored points this season, and if the financial spread of the sport wasn't so corrupt, they could move forward next season and go on to greater things. It would be tremendous to see a brand new team such as Marussia have a few years of struggles, then consolidate a midfield position then start to fight for podiums, but that isn't possible because of the way the sport is set up.

Apparently they are changing the gearbox, according to Ted Kravitz.

Shaping up to be a great battle between Lewis and Nico.
Ros was also slowed down by yellows in T3 while was improving his T2.

True in part. The regulations also prohibit more in-season development, but as has been discussed, the teams themselves came up with that.

I get that the other cars aren't bad in absolute terms, but F1 is all about the tenths of seconds, and in that regard the other teams have spectacularly failed.

Which is impressive considering it was his second run, that tells me he's got loads of time hidden up his sleeve.

Lotus F1 on Twitter: Rumours that Pastor had a spin are completely unfounded and totally untrue...well... Maybe there's some truth to it.

That's epic  . . and mean if really true!

They knew what they were coming into, you don't invite yourself to battle with a knife knowing you will be fighting against opponents wielding massive swords and have the audacity to claim unfairness after you have been skinned.
