Confirmed on national TV in Brazil, Nasr will partner Marcus Ericsson in 2015.

He signed a 2 year contract with the Swiss team.

Genuinely didn't see that coming, I thought van de Garde was nailed on for that drive, I expect to see lots of banco de Brasil stickers on next years Sauber!
No doubt lots of rich drivers chasing seats right now.......

Probably doesn't have anything to do with Brazilian sponsors, right?

I too thought van der Garde would go there. If Ericson, why not him as well.

Not sure how to feel about that. He was a hot prospect a couple of seasons ago, I remember, but his GP2 campaign this year was pretty average to say the least.

Guess we'll just have to wait to see how he gets on. Nasr and Massa. That isn't going to going to be confusing at all.

Who will be the new Williams test driver?

Surely they will be able to get someone quite good for the next couple of seasons.

Dutch sites now mention this as well and point at the Banco do Brasil as sponsor. You got to have quite a few bucks to outbid van der Garde's sponsors.

Curious to see how everyone who said this was a done deal for Van der Garde will explain this.

Did not see this one coming, and do not share the doom and gloom about Nasr. His resume is very credible:

2009 - F BMW Champion - 9 wins

2010 - British F3 1 win, 5th in championship

2010 - Macao 11th

2011 - British F3 7 wins, Champion

2011 - Macao 2nd

2012 - Very mixed season did GP2 DAMS, FIA F3 Euro, F3 Macao, F3 Euro, Daytona 24, GP2 tests Carlin, GA Rolex

2013 - GP2 Carlin 4th in Championship, Daytona 24 8th, GA-Rolex

2014 - GP2 Carlin 4 wins currently 2nd in Championship, F1 tests for Williams

There have been way less impressive resume's making it to F1.

If this means the end of Gutierrez in F1, this is good news.

Nasr has lost a lot of momentum by underachieving in GP2, very much in the mould of Bianchi who of course went on to impress in F1.

Who knows, a change in scenery might be all Nasr needs; needless to say I want to see the driver that racked up those titles.

Wow, this seems to have come from no-where. Kind of pleased to see F1 can still surprise

Pleased for Nasr, been a bit of a fan of his from his early (F3?) days after randomly coming across ITV showing the race, at that point I had never watched a race outside F1 and was about to flick over when the commentator mentioned a great pass by Felipe Massa  (WHAT - how is he driving in this series?, obviously I misheard but it piqued my interest enough to keep watching the race (and also remember him so I'd follow him as a driver whenever I came across a race he was in)

Will be interesting to see how he goes against Ericsson (who has hardly set the world alight in his first season). Nasr's early career seemed very good but I'm not sure that carried into GP2 quite as well (although he looked more promising than Ericsson (and Van der Garde) in my opinion but he hasn't stood out like some, although he is very good at managing his race and conserving tyres so maybe F1 will be right up his street :p ).

Two pay drivers for Sauber. No surprise there. Still I'm happy to have Nasr in F1.

Did Palmer get a seat already?

well, better nasr than van der garde imo.

In the past I had high hopes for him, but his gp2 years were only above average. Let's see what he can do in F1.

It could very well be Jolyon Palmer.
Jonathan Palmer, Jolyon's fater, actually started his F1 carreer in 1983 as a Williams F1 test driver and he even drove his first GP in a 3rd Williams for them.
I have a feeling that Jolyon could end up there, there is a connection already through his father and it's been a while since Williams had a British 3rd driver so why not?

He wouldn't fit the program very well though since he's a bit far gone. Williams will be looking for a driver do testing in 2015 while racing (GP2/GP3/WSR) and then take massas race seat in 2016. No way Palmer is racing GP2 again next season.

Think they will go for someone younger. Maybe a Red Bull discard (one of Gasly/Lynn/Sainz) or if they could poach Ocon. Would not rule out Pedro Piquet either who has just won the Brazilian F3 and will be racing Euro F3 or GP3 next season. Established Williams connection there as well.

Well am a bit suprised sure he had creds but expected him to go to Williams on a Bottas scheme... Sure he has some creds but that is something every paydriver has now.

Delighted Nasr will be in F1. First time I've had two of my favourite drivers in F1 since 2009 when I had Raikkonen and Buemi.

According to AMuS, van der Garde was already bragging about having signed a contract with Sauber for next year.

Must've been a slap in the face to hear the news.

Backmarker drivers for sadly what is now a backmarker team.

Hopefully both team and drivers will surprise next year though.

Good decision.

Sauber is obviously taking those who can pay now. "Show me the money". The uncertainty surrounding Marussia and Caterham seems to have strengthened Sauber's bargaining position.

With the extra money from (a likely) 3rd in the WCC and perhaps new sponsors too, perhaps Williams won't need to sell off FP1 slots any more?

PS: Finally made 1000 posts

Wow, I never thought we would see Sauber signing Yuji Ide-tier drivers. Ericsson who is arguably in top 10 worst drivers ever to race in F1 and now Nasr, who is pretty much noone in lower series.

Well, that is the second Dutchman getting stiffed by Sauber in a few years time. I guess vd Garde would want a refund, he had a pre-contract? for testing this year and racing in 2015.

(Probable) runner-up in GP2 and winner of British F3 (beating Magnussen in the same team) is nothing now ?

A bit overblown on Ericsson too, he's not the fastest but not as bad as Ide or anywhere near it.

Especially both being Felipay's.

I don't know why,but Ericsson/Nasr excites me much more than Sutil/Gutierrez,which IMO was the least exciting lineup of all time.

Wow that's an unpleasant surprise for us Dutchies. Blick and AMuS seemed really sure that it would be Giedo so I really thought he secured the 2nd seat (he probably thought so too). I guess Nasr just brought more money to the table than Giedo did and I presume his F1 career is over now.

Well, that came out of nowhere. With so many younger big talents on course for F1 and Nasr himself constantly underperforming in GP2 I thought his chance was over.

I guess for Sauber it's more profitable to negotiate with new drivers than with current drivers.
