I was flicking through an Internet magazine in smiths, think it was called 'the net' and they were reviewing F1 Web sites.
Below are some of the star ratings they they gave:

1. Autosport ******

2. F1-ITV *****

3. DailyF1 *****

4. AtlasF1 ****

They were slagging of Atlas's arrogance for proclaiming that it is the best F1 journal on the net and taking the piss out of the Times newspaper like emblem that is used.

What do you think to that?

I think that this article you were reading may have been biased in favour of British based web-sites. I suspect the advertisers in this publication are largely all British ?

I think it goes without saying that AtlasF1 is certainly better (more accurate, less biased and reactionary) then either ITV or Dailyf1 by a large margin. I haven't even looked into Autosport. I think we should regard this article favorably for just mentioning AtlasF1 !

...Also I would be really curious to learn if the article mentioned how many 'hits' each of these sites were receiving ? I wouldn't be surprised to learn that AtlasF1 is one of the more F1 popular sites. This is a good measure of how well regarded a site is.

Did you post this article in an effort to 'bait' bira into responding ?

DailyF1 is not a british site either so I very much doubt thats the reason, and no I'm not trying to upset Bira, however if it was my Web site they were reviewing I would want to hear about it.

You might also want to take it into consideration that The Net's publisher, Haymarket, have always made a point of slagging off Atlas F1.

My personal take on that is that they see us as some sort of competition, considering we - albeit being far less established than them in this business - at often times give them competition and in any event have more readers than their magazines, Autosport and F1 Racing, as well as more visitors and pageviews than their Autsport website, certainly as far as F1 sites are concerned :)

On a different note: DailyF1 is a good site, and I don't think that outside the BB, there is much resemblance between Atlas F1 and them. There's a place for all, and I can only wish there would be more good F1 websites.

What a load of rubbish.

Has anyone acctually seen the state of ITV-F1.

Its rubbish.

This is definately the best website on the net. Easily.

BTW: Are they trying to say that Atlasf1 idn't acctually get those awards.

Well not punish exactly I mean get your own back.
Most newspapers in this country deadicate the odd page for slagging off the competition, mainly the Sun and Mirror.

Bob, I don't live in England and Atlas F1 isn't a UK publication, so what you describe is a completely foreign idea to me. I would really rather concentrate my energies and time on Atlas F1 and no on anyone else's company/magazine/website :)

Bira, oh well you must do it immediately!!!

What you do is nominate somebody to scrutinise their Web site and when ever they do something wrong or do something crap write an artical about it in the atlas news section:)

1-2 years ago, I had seen some hit statistics of web sites. I don't remember much details but if I remember correctly, among F1 sites formula1.com was the 1st (which is understandable because of its name) and AtlasF1 2nd. Can anybody confirm whether I am right or wrong?

Smarty, formula1.com is by far the biggest -- there's a huge gap in pageviews between formula1.com and the rest of the websites and yes, it's largely due to the 150+ F1 related domain names they own ;)

Two years ago? Yes, we were definitely second. Today I'd say we're 2nd or 3rd, and in any event in the top 5.

Bira,
Did you manage to sort out some kind of funding for Atlas?
I'm refering to the message that you put out a couple of months ago.
PM me if you'd rather not say here.

I know i am loyal to this place but seriously, I have visited a few of the other sites and I never feel as at home as uii do here. This place has all the news i need and it's written PROPERLY in a journal format rather than a tabloid.

Atlas has one BIG thing in it's favour ... no STUPID frames. The simplicity of the site will always bring me back.

I've posted on more then a few occasions on DailyF1 but, Atlas is clearly head and shoulders above it. Not only is the content very good but Atlas is trying to find ways to improve, well at least to me it seems that why. Which IMO keeps it ahead of the rest.

If I were actually a uk resident and reader of 'the net' I would write a letter to their 'letters page' complaining that they rated a website that their parent company owns at all let alone as best without mentioning this. its hidden product placement and sucks arse.

While I'm new to this board I've been impressed by the quality of the technical posts and the responses they generate.
The board's management is superior as well.
Thumbs up to Atlas from me.

What do you mean Atlas F1 is not from the U.K??!!!!!! This new fangled internet technology thing has darn gone and tricked me again! Where the hell am I then???
Autosport is definitely a good site covering a lot of motorsport aspects, but Atlas gets the marks for being a site for true F1 fan interraction.

Bira, you better get more info about Daily F1 too, if you really want to compete with them!

I think baddog's got a good point. I'm always very cautious about these kind of "ratings" until I know who's doing what for whom. I read The Net once. They were rating computer "techie" websites. I hadn't heard of half the ones they recommended and (after checking those out) in most cases could think of a site that was popularly known and did it better.

Then again, the 'net is a big place these days. And even a mention in a popular publication is good for Atlas. People can come here and work it out for themselves. I think this site is good enough to speak for itself!

NB: Please excuse any apparent grovelling. It isn't, as I have no need to.

None of the other sites can compare simply because most of them are simply news services. AtlasF1 offers the news as well as insightful articles. Autosport doesn't cover F1 to a degree that is anything close to Atlas. ITV's site is poor because the advertisements slow it down so much, as well as the infrequency of updates.

So here's to Atlas, easily the best F1 site on the net.

I think AF1 should be very proud to even appear on that list. Think about it, AtlasF1 is the only independant website there. Autosport is of course backed by the magazine publisher. F1-ITV is backed by a major television station. AFAIK DF1 is sponsored by Ford. So I don't think there is any shame to appear 4th on that list even disregarding the obvious bias of the writers.

Hi guys,

I just registered and came straight to this post because I am an avid reader of both sites.

You can't compare the two because firstly, Daily F1 has one guy doing all the material on the English site - news and features - while Atlas has a whole host of contributors. The former is an accurate, up-to-date, concise news and information service while the other is an informative, also accurate on-line magazine.

Chalk and cheese but both very high quality :)

regards

Kikuyu
