You are doing the same thing by assuming Nico would have got pole though

Based on the quali form this year, I'd say he quite possibly may have got 2 out of 3 at least.
LH has been the better racer, but not the better qualifier in my eyes.

Fair play.
I give Nico a slight edge in qualifying this year. During their time as teammates (including last year), they are very evenly matched in that area.
Lewis is a league above overall though.

How fast was Massa's lap before he decided to abort it? In commentary Brundle said him and Rosberg were up on Hamilton's first sector and considering Massa was mighty in the final sector, it seems like a major opportunity at pole position has been missed.
Williams tweeted that traffic held up both drivers on their final laps, but not sure if there's any further info on that yet.

Another great pole from Rosberg. Can we please finally have a similar performance in the race?
This would be a welcome outcome. However Lewis has shown better tyre management, fuel usage ... which usually gives him
that edge and puts him in front of Nico.

What's disappointing you? The guy is on a roll of 5 wins in a row. The guy on pole isn't.
But he wasn't on pole for 5 races in a row. I'm not disappointed with his whole season obviously, but with his qualifying performance.

Except that Lewis was on track for pole at Monaco. And he's a master of Hungary. You can make a case for both at nearly every race.
Point is, we can do this exercise all day long, it's still 7-7 where both made it to the end of Q3 without parking/reversing causing a yellow flag or any brake disk/fire.

Good enough to challenge for pole...

Rosberg and Lewis are a match in qualifying or Rosberg a bit faster. So who cares about this races? I don't think one driver on the grid can claim to be the like senna in qualifying, or to be the best without a doubt
Or:

With Senna we are talking about a completely different era so we can't compare, however Senna had a margin over his team mates, but I don't see any of his team mates as qualification specialists and I'm talking right up there.

Claire was talking about splitting the Mercedes, so quite possibly.

Amen. Senna was definitely a quick guy over 1 lap, but he never faced tremendous competition internally.

We will never know about Monaco, Germany and Hungary. Prior to Q3 at the Canadian GP, there were a few posters saying Lewis would be on Pole without a doubt. Now imagine Lewis had a technical issue preventing Q3 running on that occasion.....................
In Monaco Lewis was looking good up to that point. Lewis out qualified Nico in 2013 so I don't see how Nico's performance thus far in 2014 make him unquestionably fastest over one lap. Nico has performed better in 2014.

Really, how do you split .033 and not think of getting pole ??
Posted 08 November 2014 - 17:57

Yes he did
Berger and Prost were decent qualifiers. Both Berger and Prost matched Mansell head to head in qualifying. So you get a fair idea, that Senna was the best qualifier of his era by a modest margin. He was always the one putting the gap between his teammates in qualifying.
Senna also encountered a young Mika, and beat him 2-1 head to head. Damon Hill could not get close to Senna in their short time in qualifying as well.

Exactly.

I wonder what would have been had McLaren put Mika in that seat from the start. I think Senna would still have won, but it would have been a good battle particular in the second half of the season.

Here's hoping the Williams get mega starts and make things interesting for the race.

I was seeing the driver track position and I dont think at any point any driver was in traffic. Everyone was on their hot hap at the same time with the exception of Kimi.

He did said he would change his approach so maybe this is it... Better on sunday than on saturday...

They should hope for a dry race then, otherwise McLaren, Red Bull and possibly Ferrari could become a threat.

that's a shame, I would have really wanted to see massa get the pole and hear the crowd go apeshit.
maybe it'll stay dry 2m and massa can get one of his mega starts......

i have to say am confused. i was expecting lewis to annihilate nico in qualy but that hasnt happened which makes me think schumis last year was super impressive as he was quite a bit faster than nico
