Blimey, the reactions of some in here are so strong you'd think it was Double Points 2.0 .
For those who say it's unnecessary, yes you're correct, F1 doesn't need this 'Info Wing' but as a concept what's not to like and what's the downside? If they perfect it, by which I mean it is visible from distances in varying degrees of light and on tv, it'll help fans, granted maybe layman fans, but nevertheless it doesn't diminish the sport itself as so many ideas of the recent past have. I like the idea and have no problem with it, this was just a test so let them develop it and see what they can come up with, without shooting down a perfectly reasonable idea and concept before it's even got going. I understand that with the recent track record the FIA aren't doing a good job of implementing things that benefit the sport, but this might well do and I really don't see a downside other than the LEDs no being bright enough yet. It looks fine, better than I was expecting actually, and would in my view be a nice addition to help make the sport more accessible for casual viewers, which I think is it's purpose.
Having said that I wonder how much of the criticism stems from the fact that it is Anthony Hamilton who has put forth this idea. I have no idea why (Di Resta fans?) but there are already some vile comments in this thread about him and if it were Martin Brundle for example who had come up with this idea, I wonder how different the reaction would be, certainly a little more patience would be awarded.

What takes an LED marker system from being not required, to being passionately 'not required' is because it stems from Hamilton.
As far as I can tell, it's just an extension in the same vein as the old red/yellow roll bar camera highlighting.
Not really required for a TV audience with competant comentators, but valuable for trackside spectators who don't have their heads burried in a Kangaroo TV.
