Button you genius! Coverage missed it.  :well:

What happened?

I saw on the timing that Jenson had got back past Alonso, and then Alonso dropped back quite a long way - did he make a mistake?

I'm not sure what happened there. They showed Alonso's overtake on Button, but a lap later Button got him back, but I also just saw that on live timing. I think Jenson just had to warm up his tires but as soon as he did that his pace was just quite a lot quicker than the Ferrari's.

can't you even just muster up a congratulatory message even if it hurts, trust me it will be so magnanimous of you and make you look that wee bit grander. You can even add a smily for good effect

try it :)

I'll concede that I think Hamilton is clearly the best driver in F1 right now. I think he and Alonso have been the class for several years but now Fernando is getting a bit long in tooth. I suspect that Hamilton may be on his way to winning several in a row here if the Mercedes dominance continues for a couple of years like it did for Red Bull.

Other than his remarkable driving, though, I find little to like about Hamilton as a person. But the same can be said for many of the greats in autosport. Perhaps it's a common trait that makes them great.

But congrats to Ham and all his fans. He was the best driver on the best team this year and clearly deserved the title over Nico.

But some good drives. Hamilton controlling from the front after a great start, Massa putting the pressure on, Ricciardo making his way to 4th from the pitlane and JB again getting the best out of his car with a very good drive after a difficult Friday.

Ricciardo from pit lane to 4th was quite impressive. He flew under the radar today.

I have two questions.

How did Button overtake Alonso after Alonso overtook him?

How did Raikkönen catch up to Alonso, did Alo have some car issues?

If Nico started the way Hamilton did, and Hamilton couldn't overtake him, would Massa have catched Hamilton then?

Did anyone else think that the merc lot were skating pretty close to danger with their alcohol consumption, I'd hate to see them all beheaded or whatever it is they do to people who flout the strict alcohol laws in that country. Wouldnt be surprised if ferrari were nudging a few people - 'paddy Lowe, lock him up. That Hamilton chaps all over the barcadi and cokes etc etc...'

Soooooo given the outcome No need for any of that double points marlakey at the sharp end of the championship then!

Come to think of it ,was it to the detriment or benefit to any drivers

Fortunately not. Although I still think there is something wrong with the points system if someone with 5 wins can be so close to someone with 10.

Although actually the double points gave a more meaningful gap.

Yeah, it's weird, but the double points actually made the end result more reasonable.

I thought they said Bottas was the sole beneficiary of double points? Nearly FI too.

I thought Vergne had a great battle with Ricciardo in the middle of the race. He's way better than just a test driver.

Yet that seems to be incorrect. He is 19 points adrift of Vettel. With no double points he would lead Vettel by 8 points. Don't really get how he benefitted form double points!? Maybe that held true in the middle of the race at some point, but not at the end.

Sorry, but this needs repeating. Tech problems have not affected the championship result in this race.

That's true, but it did ruin some of the race, and also makes it bit more... "meh" in a way. I know fully well that a healthy Merc for Rosberg, wouldn't done anything different, other than the feel...

Highlight of the race was the Lotus mechanics laughing their heads off at their piece of crap car burning.

Yup! That was awesome!
