I don't want to bring negativity here but some posters have been saying how they are going to boycott the Abu Dhabi GP because of the double points. Are you going to do that?

I dislike the idea of double points so much that I don't want to see the race. And while I'd prefer Hamilton winning the title, this title battle doesn't really turn me on. I'd watch it without real passion for either contender, only for the love of the sport. And I don't have so much love for the sport which is getting more and more of a PR game of dictators, away from where the fans are. I'm not necessarily saying Abu Dhabi is the worst GP host in terms of human rights, Bahrain, Russia, China sound worse. Or maybe Abu Dhabi has just been better in the PR game. Still, far away from where most fans are from, and on an uninspiring circuit. So it's easy to boycott the race. The Davis Cup final will ensure I won't have any temptation to watch the race.

I will be watching as it's the season finale, double points or not. I've not spent 9 months following the season to give up on the final round. There will still be tension, drama and excitement regardless of the double points. Also the championship would be going to this race regardless.

Missed a few races this season due to travel and felt no real guilt about it. I'm probably going to go for a walk tomorrow at 3pm local time just as it starts and check the results when I get home.

If you watch the race, you support this stupid rule.

Dont cry when they bring out more stupid rules to spice the show up in the future.

I watch because I support F1.

I don't agree with the new powertrains, should I not watch until they are remove??  In the end it isn't that big of a deal. My life would be vastly more affected removing F1 than from it than it is by double points or hybrid powertrains.

I don't like pouty fans that think because they watch the sport they should have a say in how it is operated, so I'm not going to be one.  Don't like F1, don't watch it, but don't expect anyone to care.

They can take their double points, roll 'em up and shove 'em right up their arse.

So wait...people will happily watch the Bahrain Grand Prix, despite how that that country's Government has treated protesters, but as soon as another race awards double points, there's a discussion about boycotting it?

Wow.

As for my response, of course not.

No. I've decided not to watch the Bahrain GP for the last 3 years it is, I think, but this silly rule is not grounds for a boycott in my mind.

No since Rosberg would even have a shot at the title with "normal" points. Doesn't mean I will see him as champion if he does it due to the double points (not that anyone cares, the FIA can hardly turn it back after the fact).

I'm just glad that the people in F1 have really weird thinking (they lack common sense mostly) and suddenly started to see the potential success of double points as a negative. "Double points will keep the last round more exciting!... -9 months later- Oh no!, it kinda worked and now will potentially change the result! what did we do!?" :drunk:

The thing about the double points is that if Hamilton retired from the race, it's likely Rosberg would finish 1st or 2nd anyway - in which case he'd win the title regardless of double points.

Therefore it's unlikely to make a difference and there's no need not to watch!

Yeah, F1 "customers" or should I say target groups are old people, who want to buy Rolex. So it doesn't make a difference if I boycott or not! Lol. I am going to watch an illegal internet stream anyway if I do. :p

So you're going to boycott the whole of next year then in case there is a Safety Car?

I'm an F1 fan, I hate the rule but I'll still be glued to the race. Not watching it will make zilch difference. I've already paid for my Sky subscription...

No thank you very much. Waited all these years for Lewis to win his second WDC only to boycott because of double point. I think boycotting doesn't solve the problem anyways, as you will need a large amount of people to boycott to get into Bernie's/FIA's skull.

This song might be handy for you minority boycotting the race https://youtube.com/...h?v=D3j_fdSpkmE

As I said at the time this rule was introduced, if we ever have a situation where the double points rule achieves its objective of artificially extending the title race, I will not watch any race that is billed as a "title decider" when, under a non-double points system, the title would have been over. That's not the case this year so I'm watching.

But, like everyone else, I'd have been watching anyway, because we've been fortunate enough to have a really close battle for the title and this race would have been decisive in any case.

You're missing the northern option "Am I F###" that I would have gone for. F1 is the only sport I follow, I've follwed it for 20 years now and I aim to watch or at least read about every single test, practice, qualifying or race. I don't like double points but it's not like it's been sprung on the drivers during the race. Both of them have gone into the race knowing what they need to do to win the championship like every championship decider. So I'm going to watch them decide the championship.

Er, no. If you watch the race you accept the stupid rule - which, of course, everyone has already been doing as it was in the rule book since before the first race.

Shouldn't this go in the SQT (stupid question thread). Someone should start a forum targeting those who claim to be F1 fans, but do nothing but b+m about the sport. If you don't like the current state of F1 ... DON'T WATCH!

No, boycotting does nothing, this will be the first and possibly the last race with double points ever, with all the drama over the season i'm not missing this race for anything.

People seem to have a very short memory when it comes to points in F1.  I recall the ability to drop your worst rounds for example, something which could be viewed as being just as unfair as the double points scenario.

no, but if Rosberg wins the title because of it then I won't regard him as the real champion, I will also campaign for Bernie Ecclestone to be thrown in a ditch.

There's still a legitimate race to watch. Hamilton will probably win it. If Rosberg does somehow, it won't likely be because of double points. Further standings might be affected. No doubt we'll have two tables to look at. The official one and the normal points one. Good job they're dropping the idea after this year. Otherwise, I would be off F1 altogether. As it is, I've lost loads of respect I once had for the big players.

This is totally SILLY! Can anyone argue that this season hasn't been exciting? I don't think so. Yes, DP isn't a good rule at all, but it is what it is and it's the same for everybody. I can totally understand the Hamilton fans' frustrations if Rosberg wins the title because of DP, especially since this rule is only for this season and not something that is going to stick further on. We can only argue who deserved the title or didn't, but at the end of the day, it's gonna be Rosberg's name there as a WDC in case something happens to LH and that's it.

So after all the threats of double points disasters, the only change in the WDC standings (vs non-double points) is that Perez jumped from 12th to 10th ahead of Magnussen and Raikkonen.  Massa beat Button on points, where they would have been tied w/o double points, but FM would have taken 7th anyway on account of his best finish of 2nd to JB's best finish of 3rd.
