Crikey. Imagine what would've happened if that had gone wrong. Some video though!

The things our species will do to escape the reality of our mortality.

Cool. I'd be impressed if it wasn't for the fact that I think Lotus are a laughing stock, on and off the track. Sort your cr*p out before these PR stunts.

wow thats pretty darn dangerous

Lotus: "Alright Marco, we'd like you to be our official test and reserve driver for the 2014 season."
Sorensen: "Brilliant! How many Friday practice sessions will I get?"
Lotus: "Actually, we plan to run Romain and Pastor in all of the sessions this year."
Sorensen: "Oh well, I understand. But I'll get to do some straight-line testing and filming days in an older car, right?"
Lotus: "Errrm, we'll get your schedule sorted out once you've signed your contract. I assume you've still got your backing from Saxo Bank?"

The F1 car's wings pushed the air upwards and that allowed the truck to fly!
Posted 22 November 2014 - 22:38
"Ok, you can be our stunt driver for this video or you can be one of our F1 drivers"
"Are you kidding? This video is darn dangerous and..."
"Dude, your teammate is going to be Pastor Maldonado..."
"...aaaaand action!"

I do this all the time on Grand Theft Auto
Unimpressed

I wonder what Bernie Ecclestone thinks to this going viral...
Posted 22 November 2014 - 23:30
I bet the Lotus had trouble keeping up with the truck....

No because it's real, there is even a behind the scenes video.Am I stating the obvious calling CGI??
Posted 23 November 2014 - 00:47
Well, since they are Mercedes customers next year, they will probably have Mercedes trucks. They gotta use the renault trucks now, till it lasts!

Oh don't worry. Bernie does not know what viral means. He might quarantine the Lotus cars though.

It does make you wonder whether doing pointless stuff like this, woudn't their time be better served trying to get the car quicker?
I know it is publicity and the like, but as a sponsor, would you be happy?

As a sponsor I'd far rather my logos going viral on millions of FB accounts round the internet over getting 10 mins of coverage in an F1 race weekend, and those 10 mins consisting of being either eliminated from Q1, crashing or pulling over with car failure.
Posted 23 November 2014 - 12:16
You'd be having an amazing weekend if you managed to turn slow in qualifying, crashing, and DNFs into 10 minutes of sponsor time.
The problem with the ad is it's for EMC2. Which I've seen in F1 for years but can't really tell you what they do. Kind of like SAP. I'm sure to customers that would use their product, they know who they are.
But watching the video, I keep thinking it's an ad for the truck manufacturer.
Posted 23 November 2014 - 12:41
@Ross: I didn't know what EMC is doing either. But after watching that vid i googled EMC. Now i realised that this is basically what they want us to do

wow thats pretty darn dangerous
It was obviously Maldonado's idea.
