"I am honestly talking to somebody who would like to take this over within the next month," administrator Finbarr O'Connell said.

Caterham competed in last weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix having missed the previous two in the USA and Brazil.

"They (the potential buyer) would like to take it over with the same people, as the same team with the same infrastructure, and that would be the dream result for me." O'Connell added.

"It would be absolutely fantastic."

Apparently the buyer has an F1 background, Prodrive maybe?

McLaren, to create B Team? Craig Pollock? Flavio Briatore? JV? EJ?

Fingers crossed someone buys Caterham. They've been run through the dirt the past few months, but if someone can salvage what's left and start rebuilding, there is no reason they can't have two cars on the grid come Melbourne.

I dont think EJ wants involved with F1 now every time he is on the bbc he is always talking about high cost of F1

If it was pro drive it may be with coswotrh /VW  as pro driver was want to buy it at one stage

http://www.prodrive....ses.html?id=446

Also if there buying the team for peanuts with little debt I highly doubt Renault will be keen to supply a team that never paid last time around new owners or not

Just imagine if Ross Brawn were to buy Caterham and somehow win a WCC with a third team. That would put him into the legendary status.

I'm not sure they've even really started engineering a car for 2015, since all their budget seems to have been used just to operate the team at racetracks.

You probably said that in late 2008 when Ross took over the defunct Honda team.

Those piggies really soared, didn't they?

Ok, he'll become mythical. In that he will cease to exist and only be remembered in old wives tales and fables.

He's already done it with 3 teams - Benetton, Ferrari and Brawn.

Which means that if he does it with 4 teams he would become a unicorn.

Good for them. They have terrible months previously. They need stability, and a rich backer.

They need fundamental regulation changes in regards to revenue distribution. A rich backer is nothing more than a band aid solution.

Yeah, however that Honda support wasn't very much as they didn't have the money to fund the development of the car in the 2009 season.....

And Ross is never going back to F1. Unless.... Ferrari gives him the title of "President of Ferrari".

Caterham allowed to run 2014 car in 2015

http://www.bbc.co.uk...rmula1/30272621

Problem is they already have a 2015 spec car ready to build

It surely cant be cheaper to knock out a old (new) chassis that is is to build the 2015 spec chassis

Probably the only reason someone is interested because, without Marussia, there's some prize money available down the line. I feel that this mystery buyer will be of the same mould as all of those other wannabe F1 owners who don't have the serious money that's needed and think they will find sponsors/investors once they get the team together. Being able to run the 2014 spec car just means they will think they can get away with having very little money to start with and that's not what will make a viable F1 team.

Well, I don't know which driver would want to drive a 2014 car in 2015, let alone pay loads of money to do it.

Strange if you think about it.

The Honda team became the Mercedes team, and the Mercedes team became the Honda team.

Only in Formula 1.

Does that mean that Caterham can run with 10 kilos less than everyone else? Or is the only "advantage" they get, that they can continue to use their ugly nose?

I'm fairly sure they will be on the grid in some form. Bernie doing a deal to get them there is the most efficient way to ensure 20 cars.

What do you mean by "third team". Wouldn't it be his second OR fourth team to win the WCC with!?

There is no value in that for a potential investor. Running the uncompetitive Renault/RBT power train won't bring progress especially if they have to run an updated 2014 chassis to comply with the regs. So any potential buyer will be spending $100 millions to be in last place. How sustainable is that? Haas' presence in 2016 could put them back in trouble as well.

Racing 2014 spec could  be the due to the fact that who ever will buy the team thus then they plan to offload it to new investors some one like  VAG

I bet prospective new owners may start backing off with Engavest now threatening action against Fernandes & Co, seeking compensation over the purchase that never happened.

Sure it'd be a perfect way in for Project Brabham, but I think they want to start from scratch.

Brabham are proposing a modest and sensible LMP2 programme for a few million quid.  They are hardly likely to suddenly throw caution to the winds and try to leap into F1 needing £000s of millions that they haven't got.

Is the rescue about to happen or is it another pipe dream designed to fill copy over the off season? Everyday that goes by is a day that they haven't worked on the car.

I really hope their plan isn't just to not spend any cash and drive around getting the WCC money for 10th.

Because they technically could just run the team as essentially a shell operation and since they are guaranteed 10th just run off that money.

Given the meeting to rubber stamp a potential rescue deal was meant to be last Monday, and there's been no news of it being approved, I'm going to guess that no news is bad news and that the creditors were not convinced.

They kept that quiet then. Good news though. As much as I expect them to be dead last I prefer more teams on the grid than less. Especially as both Marussia and Caterham ran closer to the lead pace than the back markers of years gone.
