That's at Lakeside, of course...

A lovely car, its 'orphan' engine was always a question to me. But it certainly was better than a Mazda rotary!

I too dislike rotaries but I suspect the parts are a lot easier to find.

I do remember the car in period and even then thought the engine a little unusual.

I cannot remember its performance relevant to the other similar cars.

I suspect that the builder probably did a deal somewhere and got it for the right money, and then it was current so the parts less of an issue.

You're probably right in that, Lee...

It certainly should have been cheaper than a BDG, which was probably the logical alternative, or a BMW race engine. Its lightness might also have been factored in by Barry Lock.

Ray, that looks like Surfers to me.

Dale.

Not so much...

the row of advertising hoardings opposite the pit area, just the same at both. Lakeside, however, has a hill there.

There has never been a row of advertising hoardings like that at Lakeside - the MMM sign base is still there, but that's about all there was - ever.

The pit road, the width of the straight, the graded and wide track shoulders, even the painted Armco - it could only be Surfers Paradise.

The wording on the signs was a not insignificant clue too !.

TNF has high expectations.

I failed... I admit it...

But there was a time when there was more than just the Triple M sign.

I was sure that my cousin at Titan told me years ago that they had done something with the Vega engine, so I E-Mailed him yesterday to check. He came back with this:

"Hi David , yes we did

1. We bought all the Cosworth stock cranks, cams, heads, blocks etc

2.We made an F3 engine for Mike Blanchet to use in a Lola .

3. The engine was designed to run the pistons and rings directly on the alloy bore , I think the block had a high silicon content ( LM27 for memory) .

4. This was not good so we fitted liners to run the engines

5 . We then fitted a deck plate to the top of the 2 litre pinto cast iron block and moved the head bolt  positions to suit the alloy 16 v Vega head and line bored it to fit the cossy vega steel crank and produced an engine called a Rally Master used by euro champ John Welch in rallycross .

Is this enough to go on, you piston head?"

First quality jack stands there...

This car was a very nice thing when first built.

It would appear it still is.

Though those bricks are shockers!

Bump stops perhaps.

Gives a new meaning to the term "rock-hard".

That photo was taken in the late 70's or early 80's and when purchased the car had been modified and certainly was not in that condition, it is currently undergoing restoration to when it was first built.
