Somehow a pre-war (I think 1938) Packard straight 8 found its way to Italy. It was bodied by Vignale, likely in the earliest days of the firm. Does anyone know anything about this car beyond the fact that it has been on the US Concours circuit for a number of years. The owner originally thought that it was delivered to Vignale before the war, but that seems impossible considering the firm's start after the war.

The car in question (the only Vignale bodied Packard) was built in 1948 on a 1939 One-Twenty chassis (the 'budget' straight eight). Can't help you with how it got there, maybe it had been in Italy since new and had been damaged or neglected during the war. It would seem unlikely that Vignale had it from new as he only started experimenting with coachbuilding in 1946 and set up his company in 1948 making this one of his very first cars.
