Once F1 got rid of the stupidity of the final race double points, IndyCar introduces them. OK, they had double points also in the last season's final race but all Triple Crown (500-mile) races had double points. Next year it will be different, the season will end on a road course at Sonoma with a normal race distance. Besides Sonoma, Indy 500 will award double points whereas the other 500-mile races won't.
I wish F1 had never introduced the double points, also because it seems IndyCar started doubling points just to follow F1. Even though I think the format was good last season. It was the longest races awarding double points. It's logical the most important race awarded the double points as well as the races of an equal distance. But the Sonoma double points are just as stupid as the Abu Dhabi double points, just because of the race's calendar slot. To make them more sensible, extend the race distance, something like 300mi/500km would sound about right. Or have a doubleheader with two races with normal points. Ain't gonna happen, though.
As an answer to the poll's question, I liked the last season's rule. It also increased the weight of oval races in the championship, I think ovals should make half of the season.
