Bernie's discovered the secret to immortality.
Or, if it's the typical "big news" story, it'll be something trivial like Ferrari having a new test driver.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Fingers crossed!
Why? You 'd rather the sport is run by corporate beancounters with the sole aim of getting the damn thing to IPO so that CVC can cash out?
I have a healthy dose of dislike for Bernie, but I also am convinced when the suits takeover we will all be wishing Bernie was still in charge.

I bet it will be big on headline but mostly cosmetic. Even if Bernie disappeared tomorrow, the finances would only be fractionally improved.
So bandaids at best.

I will reiterate what I always said, regarding Bernie: Be careful what you wish for.

Looked up who Paul Walsh is as I'm no Brit.
A proper modern day businessman.
Completely opposite to the maverick that BE is.
He will at least bring the governance of FOM into the 21st century.

Bernie Ecclestone could be nearing the final pitstop with Paul Walsh 'to take the F1 wheel' http://www.managemen...k/news/1325672/
Fair play for posting up the link bonneville but that's a rubbish article even if there is some truth in it
‘Paul would want to rein [Ecclestone] in to some extent from a good governance point of view,’ and would get ‘short tempered’ if the 84-year-old didn’t change his ways within a ‘few months’, the source said.
WTF?!
Anyway, a change is invetible but as posted above, be careful what you wish for

If that's the news I'll eat my hat!!
Otherwise if it is Bernie-related, as others have said - I think we might miss him....

Are we aware that, once this "beaking news" (if it's bernie-related) and the McLaren news are revealed, we won't have anything else to discuss for months?

This is F1 we 're talking about, someone will do something dumb sooner or later, then by the time you 're done with your Holiday turkey the "i heard a rumor x car has eleventy bagillion points of downforce for 2015" stories will start circulating, and before you know it, cars will get launched, testing will start, various creatures will be discovered nesting in Alonso's beard, the season will start etc.

could it be this, (my post from the VW to f1 topic, if you want you can check that topic out iv done more in depth analysis)
Mercedes Vs Audi Vs BMW F1WW3?
Was the demise of Bernie Ecclestone the first sign for VW to come into the sport
http://www.ft.com/cm...144feabdc0.html
"Audi and Porsche must therefore wait until Bernie Ecclestone admits defeat. This could happen in the next two years, according to rumors."
http://www.auto-moto...en-8923217.html
Which means there is a strong chance VW could be back in f1. Also with the huge increase of sales of the Mercedes road cars compered to rivals BMW and Audi, this has really lured VW's attention to f1 with each company battling for no.1 spot, and it is to note that Audi is VW's most profetable car brand.
"Mercedes S-class helps july sales beat gains at audi, BMW"
The new s class uses the formula 1 hybrid technology and with its promotion of "The Best or nothing" or "the best" and provided a boom in sales
http://www.bloomberg...t-audi-bmw.html
http://www.koreatime...388_169179.html
I think VW have played a part in eccelstones demise or at least knowing that he will go some time soon, with Porsche stating that they would have joined f1, i think this move was blocked by audi who said to them that they were going to join f1 in the near future. However VW could be using Porsche as a testing ground for f1 with Porsche using the same technology f1 uses.
"Another intriguing aspect of the Porsche story is whether the FIA World Endurance Championship is its ultimate goal or whether it may take its learning from the hybrid turbo engines it is developing in that series and transfer them to an F1 programme as an engine supplier."
"Finally, there remains the question of who is awarded the contract from the Volkswagen family. I'm going for Porsche. Because everything was focused on a possible formula 1 activities. The new factory, the new wind tunnel, the staff. Porsche is the only manufacturer in Le Mans with the Formula 1 technology. So two electric motors. One who feeds on kinetic energy, the other by the thermal expansion in the exhaust tract. The only difference is the number of cylinders. But of four can make quick six."

http://www.jamesalle...n-mclaren-deal/
Also if audi and mercedes were to compte against each other, would BMW join and what would happen to DTM?
Bernie Eccelstone said that they should come back as they didn't spend very much last time, with a budget of only $366.8M making them the sixth largest spender on f1.
http://www.f1fanatic...1-budget-4456m/
All three car companies have not been very friendly to one another -
Edit - I cant find the whole Bernie interview at the Russian gp but he did say that
Bernie said in April that "there are another couple of teams we are going to accept" (apart from Haas)

Here's a report on Daimler chief Dieter Zetsche inviting BMW and Audi to enter F1

We can always discuss how Alonso will stay at Ferrari while moving to Mercedes to replace Hamilton.

You're talking as though Bernie were interested in F1 as a sport. Maybe at one time...
IMO his main interest for many years now has been increasing his personal fortune. The beancounters would at the very least be more interested in running the sport fairly, if only to avoid trouble with the EU.

I'd rather have a beancounter in charge than a guy who claims F1 doesn't need young fans, or any of the other truly ridiculous things Bernie has come out with in the last X amount of years.
But I won't hold out too much hope if this is about him going. Bernie's like one of those baddies on a terrible horror film. You think you've seen the last of them and then suddenly they're back having survived some ridiculous situation...how many times have we all thought it was finally the end for Bernie, just this year?

If the news is that Bernie is going, it won't be a magic fix to all of F1's problems but he would have to go at some point and I think now is as good a time as any. F1 needs reform and perhaps it is better for taht reform to be undertaken by those who will be around to implement it, rather than reforming and having Bernie's successor tear it all up. Assuming Bernie would have budged on reform in the first place, but seems unlikely.

I'm not sure why everyone is so happy to see the back of Bernie. He has been at the helm of Formula 1 through nearly all of its success as a sport. While change will be inevitable with his age I'm not so sure losing Bernie will be the positive F1 move people make it out to be.

What Bernie does and what Bernie says are poles apart from each other. Both positively and negatively.
