With these odds, is it a little wonder that most of the sporting world yawns at 2015 F1.

A shame that so-called pinnacle is turning out to be as competitive as watching the paint dry.

Ricciardo and Bottas odds are good value in my opinion.

Alonso and Vettel having better odds than Ricciardo is a tough one. He will certainly have a better car, unless McLaren-Honda makes a brilliant car.

One can't blame F1 for being what it is, teams will rise and fall. Its up to other teams to challenge Mercedes. Nico should up his game.

I'm not really following Ricciardo's odds neither, though I suppose Alonso and Vettel with more established fans will be getting more bets than him, therefore their values will be inflated by comparison.

What looks really strange to me is Toro Rosso having much shorter odds than Force India to win the championship. They don't have a Mercedes engine, are not an independent competitor like Force India (surely even if Toro Rosso luck into designing a super car they still wouldn't be allowed to beat Red Bull for the title), and will have 2 rookies as drivers vs a very strong pair of experienced upper midfielders. Okay neither will come remotely close to winning the title, but even in terms of WCC table you'd lean towards FI beating them.

Could you elaborate? I would think that the odds are set separately from how likely it is for people to bet on their fav driver. Because it seems to me that if more people bet on their fav driver, it doesn't make the reality any more riskier for the betting company so they have to cut the odds.

The odds will change by how much is bet on any given driver. If there was millions bet on kimi at 125 to 1 and he actually pulled it off the bookie would be bankrupt,  therefore the odds will always change to reflect the betting.

Yeah I think the algorithms that calculate odds always include a factor on how many people bet on each option. Not just because of what StudMuffin posted above, but also because people might get inside info that the outcome X is more likely to happen for whatever reason, and the betting company needs to be automatically protected from it.

All you really need to know is that the odds are always stacked in the bookies favour,  unless of course it's cricket, loads of corrupt spreadbetting there.

Am very surprised at the odds for Kimi though, not a great 2014, but not much diffference between him and Verstappen

Williams is overrated. While they have a decent chance of getting 2nd or 3rd, beating Mercedes as a customer team is quite a long shot. With McLaren, RBR and even Ferrari there is at least a chance that their engine situation will be much improved.

I don't really understand the Ricciardo odds either, especially in comparison to Vettel.  He beat Vettel in the same car this year, and I'd expect RBR to have a better car in 2015 than Ferrari.  Red Bull actually had a great car this year, but they were let down by their PU.  Ferrari didn't have a great car or PU.

Was 2013 really any better with 9 wins in a row by the same person?  At least Mercedes has 2 drivers who can win.  Of course we'd all like to see F1 more competitive but a lot of people seem to have very short memories.  Large parts of F1 history have been dominated by a single team.

Kimi Raikkonen 125/1

I know, a bit silly. Though if Raikkonen does get beaten by Vettel, he should just call it a day after 2015.

Disagree with this.

I can't really see Williams winning either but for 40 and 66-1 you can't really go wrong, especially considering how much they improved over the year. As for the engine situation, personally I still think Mercedes will be quite a way ahead of everyone else.

only Williams Redbull and maybe Ferrari can do it, so not much to lose here

Yep, when he said overrated I think he meant that the odds were too short, which I disagree with. If he meant the opposite then I'll probably look like a clown.

Edit: Quoting and editing is pretty awkward on here. :(
