Local government trying to cover up the use of millions of public money - why am I not surprised  :D

I saw a short article about this on a Dutch newssite and then found this story in El Pais:

http://ccaa.elpais.c...322_721088.html

Google translation (not the greatest   ;) ) :

The prosecutor accuses Camps to create a cover for organizing Formula 1

When Francisco Camps led to Bernie Ecclestone April 1, 2006 to wander around the area of the Port of Valencia dedicated to the America's Cup, the pattern of Formula 1 he demanded that "in the event of an test in Valencia this should be on a street circuit in that area and not in the Cheste circuit . " Although announced that the test does not cost a euro to citizens , the then president of Valencia had satisfied Ecclestone at public money over the years to the point of incurring a continuing misappropriation of public funds and trespass as the anti-corruption prosecutor, who submitted a complaint. The news fell like a bomb Friday in the Valencian policy.

In the organization of Formula 1 in Valencia between 2008 and 2012 there was a private enterprise but a cover called Valmor Sports, SL , he hid it was the Generalitat responsible for testing and that, ultimately, assumed all their debts. The anti-corruption prosecutor has filed with the Superior Court of Valencia a complaint against Camps, the exconsejera of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Lola Johnson, and former pilot of motorcycling and businessman Jorge Martinez Aspar, accusing the two first continuous embezzlement and breach of trust and the second helper needed. A Johnson also attributed a corporate crime.

According to prosecutors, who opened the investigation in response to separate complaints of socialist deputies Eva Martinez and Josep Moreno and spokesman for United Esquerra in the Valencian Parliament, Ignacio Blanco, Camps "guaranteed personally and on behalf of the Government "viability Valencia Grand Prix in Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, whodemanded "negotiate directly with the President" . Camps "decided that his friend Jorge Martínez Saviors, known as Aspar , would create a company to organize the test of Formula 1 and that could benefit from it, "he says in his complaint the special prosecutor Vicente Torres.Until the end of that Ecclestone not only "all the negotiations held Mr. Camps" but the latter "eluded all administrative procurement procedures, filing a private company, knowing that she was going to develop the project was a public company ".

The Valencia president ordered the company Motor Circuit and Sports Promotion, which manages the Cheste circuit, take the sport organization of the race and, from the second edition, in 2009, another public company, Society Thematic Projects Valencia (SPTCV),Ecclestone paid the annual fee . "In either case there was any consideration by Valmor Sports to public companies," says the prosecutor.

The complaint, which details all meetings of Camps with Ecclestone says that shortly before resigning by the case of the suits , in July 2011, Camps agreed at a meeting with Ecclestone in London that "the only Grand Prix held in Spain "would be to Valencia and Catalonia would become guarantor of Valmor," with conscious disregard for the laws in force ". For it came to simulate the signature of the director of SPTCV, who was honeymoon.

Following the resignation of Camps in July 2011 as president Alberto Fabra, the Government bought the company Valmor Sports, whose partners, Jorge Martinez Aspar , businessman Fernando Roig and Bancaja, asked for a solution to not declare bankruptcy . The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Lola Johnson led the Consell, acting general meeting of shareholders of the public company Motor Circuit, the decision to buy the firm.

The acquisition was approved, but the prosecution says Johnson, who also held the presidency Motor Circuit, "tricked" the other directors "to not tell or explain" purchase supposed Valmor Sports condone the 14 million euros owed a Motor Circuit, take more than 31 million third-party debt and exonerate the company managers display any liability.

Corruption adds that in March 2012, when the contract is signed, consisted in an attached file all debt Valmor Sports of Lola Johnson "not reported". Here ends the story of the prosecutor, who decided to transfer the investigation to the Supreme Court, where Judge Pia Calderon will be responsible for carrying out investigation and define the degree of responsibility of the current Consell de Alberto Fabra, who yesterday asked for time to discuss the complaint, although He said that not perform witnessing private prosecution.

The Supreme Court asked the courts to confirm the status of deputy Camps, prior to the assumption of the complaint and the expected allocation of Camps requirement.

The writ asks Valencia's courts to investigate alleged irregularities, including how Camps allowed a private company with no experience in motorsport and only 12 employees, to operate the multimillion-dollar event.

The writ names Camps as a suspect in cases of misappropriation of public funds and corruption.

Don't know. A multi-million event should go to a trusted, proven individual. Could be envy or could be corruption. Depends on the profile of the individual running Valmor.

I have lived in Spain for many years and this is normal behaviour amongst government, national and local, officials. You can read about it every day in the newspapers.

I see where they are going with this, but the so called "private company with no experience in motorsport and only 12 employees" pulled the event off nicely. I haven't heared a single complaint about the quiality of the events organisation.

They should ask Bernie how to pay and get out of situations like this.
