I just went to see the exhibition this afternoon. About ten of the most interesting vehicles Ickx drove (Ferrari312, Porsche 936, Ford GT 40, BMW F2, the minicar he pedalled as a kid, the Zundapp motorcross bike, etc), a lot of original photos, mostly coming from the men's own collection (hair-rising the one where a field marshall is dousing him while his overalls are on fire during the Spanish GP), some films about his victories at Nurburgring or Spa, a few personal belongings (including a very elegant pair of racing shoes made by Ciccio), one or two trophies, his charred helmet and miniature models (mainly 1/18) of almost every car he drove during his career. It is not huge but it is well-documented and attractively presented.
Merckx is there too of course but I must confess cycling is not my cup of tea though I have to say the number of winning cups displayed was impressive. It was not by chance they called him the "cannibal", he didn't leave anything else to the others.
Some great large format photos of Ickx, a few by Karl Ludwigsen, were on sale but the prices were prohibitive, close to 2 000 euros each!!
Happy new year to everybody in the Forum.
