According to Omnicorse it will have a new chrome livery, even for the wheels, no more silver or green.

http://www.omnicorse...ozzeria-cromati

Also the comments from Toto Wolf about the new car:

From La Gazzetta:

Wolff “We are in line with the programs, with our 2015 car,and we have a clear idea of where we are in terms of chassis and engine”

Wolff “The #W06 will be on track on mid-Juanary when we planned to have a test in Silverstone”

Wolff “I do not rule out the chance to unveil the new car at Jerez during the first day of testing ”

biggest news might  that McLaren will not be chromed anymore...

But why Merc has to be chromed? even the wheels, well yuck, it will look like a McLaren with chrome rims : O

I mean it is not a low-rider, or is it?

IF TRUE ON OMNICOURSE

IMO,  this will follow the W05 and be more dominant than that. Think Williams 1992-1993 or 1995-1996 seasons.

I never liked the Merc livery to be honest so would welcome chrome or other tweakery.

The dark silver and green was never going to be iconic like the Marlboro McL, Rothmans Williams or of course the red cars

Because the livery isn't tobacco sponsored?

I dont believe tobacco marketing executives monopolise knowledge of eye catching branding, but rather, that was the times/era...

I also think this car has the potential to be more dominant than the W05. I'm sure the few issues the W05 had will be ironed out whilst the rest of the competition (with the exception of Williams) will have to go back to the drawing board over either chassis or power unit (or both) putting them on the back foot at the start of the season.

Although I think they should stay away from a chrome livery.

it was already iconic. That is why they will not give up the silver.

If they can sort out reliability issues then I am also quite sure it could be more dominant than the W05, personally I don't think we saw just what the W05 could do and I reckon we could have seen it go even faster. Because of this reason I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the W06 maintain it's pace advantage or even extend it. I hope we don't see that though, I want a titanic battle for the title next season involving at least two but preferably three teams.

Both the engine and car itself should be more reliable next year. So it's likely they'll release the Kraken (unless W06 has a new surname) a little more often next year.

I actually agree with this sentiment; I think The W06 will be unbeatable at the start of the season, with the others catching up, later in the season.  I think 2016 will be a lot different, with 4 teams properly in the mix.  I don't think, the season as a whole, will be like 2014 in that the W05 was absolutely the class of the field by a country mile.  I think this will make Rosberg's WDC chances harder.  Probably not the thread for this though.

Green may go but driver number will still be in red surely?

Also will Hugo Boss have their logo on the car? Maybe same place they had on the McLaren.

It looks boring to me, very boring. Needs more colours. I loved the red numbers for example.

It's about time Mercedes became the true silver car, since McLaren ceased being the main Mercedes powered team it makes no sense for McLaren to be Chrome/Silver anymore, a livery that McLaren adopted in 1997 when the engine partnership started. I hope under Honda McLaren can start a new era of their own with a new identity that doesn't ape past glories.

? Chrome was never a Merc colour. I hardly think they will ditch the silver. It is iconic, and is attached the brand. Chrome is not silver, btw. All this chrome theory comes from omnicorse, it is a rumor, not a fact.

Omnicorse aka omnisciens are always good "guessers", maybe BASF developed a lightweight chrome paint that outshines the McLaren Akzo paint by miles...

I think they should o white (classic Merc!) and red!  :smoking:

The original West McLaren Mercedes was silver like the current silver Mercedes works car. McLaren went from silver to chrome in 2006, a continuation of the Mercedes silver arrow inspired livery IMO. I doubt McLaren would have ever ended up with a chrome livery without being teamed up with Mercedes.

It started in 1995, with the MP4-10.

First the rumors suggested an 80hp increase, then it was 60 and now 50.  I'll take the first rumor thank you very much. :p

I can't stand the chrome cars personally. I hope McLaren go for a decent paint job. The grey/silver paint scheme dating back from 1997 and its evolution was good but now its the time to do something new.

Considering Mercedes F1 call themselves 'the silver arrows', I would be shocked if they switched to anything other than silver. It would be like Ferrari dropping red. I liked the W05s livery. My suggested updates would be to make the silver a shade lighter - like polar silver Mercedes road cars. That would contrast really well with the black in the livery. No way Petronas green is going either.

Re: Chrome - I think McLaren got very lazy with their liveries and so it became boring. If they put some more effort in to the design each year, they could have had some classic liveries in recent years because the chrome cars look ace in person. I've seen 3 races in the flesh in recent years and the Macca always stood out because of the chrome and it looked spectacular in Singapore under the lights.

I think this car is going to be almighty fast on some circuits.

They are now "grey arrows" to be honest, I think chrome would represent silver better than the grey they have at the moment

Yea, I agree. chrome/silver/platinum/pewter all the same in paint colors.... really its all in what you decide to name the color.

Lowe says a few things about the strengths of the W05, but equally relevant for the W06:

#F1 P. #Lowe: "Taking #FRIC off made secretly all teams a bit happy due to the weight loss, it was a welcome relief on the weight campaign."

#F1 Lowe: "#Mercedes won't carry over much directly but will redesign a large amount of the car." #W06 will be better much better car.

#F1 Lowe: "We could carry over things like the transmission but that'd just be a performance left on the table so we'll improve the design."
